Anyone remember this game?

It rocks! Very deep. Very 'mechy. Lots of weapons, squads, customizability and the action is both intense and fun. Watch some footage here:

I'm using a special, custom version of Dosbox which properly simulates a CRT on an LCD monitor. It isn't required, but highly recommended.

More info for that, later. Be sure to maximize the Twitch window.

If you have an old Roland SC-55 sound module, like I do, It'll sound even better!

Try it! It still kicks ass and when you are pissed off at the awful matchmaker, this is a great way to blow off some steam.

I remember this game.

I liked a lot of the earlier games, simple coding, not nearly as many bugs as today's games.

Wow.... the ancientness of this game. Reminds me of another obscure mecha game that no one knows existed anymore.

Bought this on Ebay and runs without a problem on DosBox (I also have figured out how to configure Multiplayer in DosBox and play Original MW2 and Doom 1 multiplayers again).

Edit- 3 Meg for Harddrive space..... back in the days... loved games like this (nostalgia alert).

I see your Iron Assault and raise you Ultrabots!

I used to play this on my black and white Compaq 486 25 DX laptop in college, back in 1993-1994.

But did you ever play the all elusive Earthsiege 2? :)

Posted Image

I admit, I did not. Not until recently, at least. I have it running under Windows 7 64-bit and it is really nice.

The terrain and graphics, overall, were superior to Mechwarrior 2 and Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries. They didn't help it sell well, however. :D

Is it similar gameplay wise?

I couldn't get Mercenaries to work at over 640*480...though I think the Titanium version was locked at that, from what I read. Videos were also....very green. Very playable, otherwise, with minimal CTDs.

The gameplay is really nifty, actually, and well worth a go if you've never experienced it. Not only do you have 'mechs, but you also have quad-mechs and aerospace. The weapons are different enough and very interesting. There's even one that literally shoots lightning bolts.

I enjoy it whenever I sit down and play.

It is a wonder it never took off. I think what shot it in the foot was the lack of multiplayer. If it had it, it surely would have been a solid contender with Mechwarrior 2.

Getting it to run isn't too bad but requires some special "tools," as mentioned in the install instructions I posted for the Mech 2 3dfx version. In particular there is that one setup32 utility that is a must.

Also, what is very neat is Dosbox isn't required, at all, to play it.
