After fighting in a lot of battles on MWO, i feel like its really starting to come together for me (tbh if i didn't learn anything about how to play from all the video tutorials and personal experience by now, i deserve to be vaporised lol)
I understand that the game is always evolving, and that some players prefer older game versions, or certain weapons, and ofc particular 'Mechs.
Well im writing this post to get your feedback on the light Firestarter 'Mech Ember.
I have noticed that certain 'Mechs suit me a lot more than others, for example i got on well with LRM based machines, and not bad with direct fire 'Mechs, but im terrible in close range sluggers and anything under 64 kph in speed. I am really enjoying my games with this little 'fella.
All i have done is swapped the Flamers for medium lasers (certainly not a new idea)
The panic it causes, difficulty to hit, speed and tbh firepower (excuse the pun) makes it much easier to play in than other 'Mechs, and i have also noticed that i personally prefer lights and mediums.
My real question however is, have you played as this 'Mech? Or a similar 'Mech with a similar loadout? What were your thoughts? And have u managed to change the build and make it even more dangerous? Or did u think it was a walking pile of scrap metal?
If so, please comment here, and share your thoughts on the little guy, also please share your builds if you had success!
Ps should i keep the lasers, or get the flamers back?
Decisions, decisions.

I run my Firestarter with 8 smalls. It's my favorite light at this point.

I bought the Ember when it was new. I absolutely sucked with it, and the one other Firestarter variant I bought. Then I waited a few months and tried it again a few days ago. Now I'm doing quite well. My e-peen is only a few inches off the floor.
I'm sure some of you will suggest that my ELO has fallen or that the underhive is different now that groups are separate. Sure. But I've always been a fairly competent Raven pilot (even using the 2X and 4X), so I was surprised that I couldn't do anything right with the Ember when I bought it.
Sometimes you just need to push through the pain barrier.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

The Ember is arguably the best light mech in the game right now. Competitive players run it with 4 medium lasers and 4 machine guns.
It has good hitboxes.
It has the highest sustained DPS of any light mech.
It can literally disable torso-mounted weapons in less than two seconds if it gets behind you. This is especially true for competitive 'Mechs which typically have very little rear armor (e.g. 10 is common).
The challenge of running an Ember is knowing when to use your machine guns. You will be tempted to stay engaged for longer than you should. MGs generate no heat so you never have to stop firing... and therefore your brain keeps telling you, "Stay on target! Just a little bit longer... he's almost dead!"
Just don't plan on using the machine guns unless you're fighting from an advantage to begin with or disengaging would be too costly to your team.

It's the best non-ECM light, so it can actually accomplish something with your required light slots.
However, it's still a light, so it's easy to kill. It does have better hit boxes than a Jenner, but that's not saying much.

I like my kit fox S, its so much fun to surprise a mech and hit them with the pulse lasers, and streak 4 right in the cockpit, I save the machine guns for the assaults and plink away to distract them.

Ember is a great Light. 4ML and MGs are is the standard build for it. It sees a lot of use in competitive play, and can still be highly effective in PUGs as well.

The Ember is the best light mech in the game.
The only negative is that it can't peek and fire over cover because of low mounted hard points.

And the stick up its butt.
I agree it's probably the best, but I'll take a Jenner-F every time because the no torso pitch thing makes me crazy.

I still prefer the JR7-F, I have more experience in it than any other mech.
Its the mech version of those comfortable old sneakers you never want to get rid of.
