This is the kind of mech well never see in this game, either because the build is either too strong or simply ridiculous, few good ones would be these:

http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Malice
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Atlas_III
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Devastator ( check out the DVS-X10 MUSE EARTH)
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Fafnir

The list could go on and on but yo get the idea, however looking at how strong the Dire Whale can be i think we will see other power houses assault mechs. I m worried about the IS tho since now they have trouble keeping up with clans, the mechs above are all IS ( Malice i need confirmation) and would help to tip the balance.

Mmmmmmm

PPC Capacitors... Heavy Gauss Rifles...

I know the game has balance problems, but having the same weapons over and over is kind of tiresome. I can't equip Clan weapons on my IS, so... :|

Would be great to have something for variety.

I know nothing about Battletech, but after surfing for quite a while, and trying to find something that I could really be excited about if added in future... I found this:

http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Thunder_Hawk

100 ton

Moves at a fair speed for its weight

But...

"Armament I am baffled that this thing exists. What happened to it that it was not present in neither MechCOmmander, or Mechwarrior 3? Or at least discussed somewhere...

Assuming we are in 3050 (or something like that), and this mech is available since 2771 ( not like I am saying every mech prior to 3050 has to be available right away)...

Would you accept its canonical existence and deal with the kind of loadout this mech has in MWO? Or there going to be bazillion threads about nerfing it?

This is not some 150 ton Omega mech that I feel like no one even expects in this game. This mech though... It is ancient, but uses all weapons that were since beta and does not exceed current top of 100 tons.

The Thunder Hawk was a relatively new design by the time the Star League fell, and those that survived the conflict were taken into exile by Kerensky & his followers.
  • "The Thunder Hawk is a Star League-era design developed and built for the SLDF by Norse Technologies during the final six years of the Amaris Civil War. General Aleksandr Kerensky is believed to have taken all the remaining Thunder Hawks with him on the Exodus." - TRO 3058, pg. 152
  • "To assist in the final stages of the invasion of the Amaris-ruled Terran Hegemony, Norse technologies developed and commissioned the Thunder Hawk. General Aleksandr Kerensky used all Thunder Hawks produced and eagerly took the surviving ’Mechs with him into Exodus." - TRO 3058 Upgrade, pg. 230

From there, it fell to the same technological decline that put the Pillager out of production until 3058 (two years after Thunder Hawk production restarts).
"Built during the Reunification War, the Pillager enjoyed great success with the SLDF and helped turn the tide of that conflict in the Star League's favor. The Pillager is the largest BattleMech ever constructed by HildCo. The destruction of the facilities that made its advanced systems kept the Pillager out of production from the end of the Second Succession War, but the decoding of the Gray Death memory core provided HildCo's engineers with the knowledge their predecessors had lost."

Basically, the IS lost/destroyed the factories needed to make the systems that go into those particular 'Mechs (including, most notably, XL Engines & Gauss Rifles) during the 1st and 2nd Succession Wars, and ComStar made a point of kidnapping or killing any scientists or engineers who were on their way to recovering those lost technologies (in a set of plans called "Operation Holy Shroud" & "Operation Holy Shroud II") until the spread of the Helm Memory Core made ComStar's efforts impossible to continue without exposing themselves (which is why there was the recovery of LosTech in time for the War of 3039 & the Clan Invasion).

The size of that Sarna lore... Kind of fries my brain...

Now somehow, I found myself trying to understand how Hyper-pulse generator works, and reading biography of Takayoshi Fuchida phycisist...

FACEDESK*

P.S
So what the Comstar are in 3050?

The Hyper-Pulse Generator (HPG) station basically opens a wormhole - a portal through space - that connects it to another HPG station, sends a radio signal pulse containing messages through the wormhole, then lets the wormhole close (because it takes too much power to keep it on for very long).

As of 3050, ComStar owns & operates nearly all of the HPG stations in the Inner Sphere (which gives them an effective monopoly on interstellar communication), and is working with the Clans against the rest of the Inner Sphere (by administering the IS-born populations of Clan-captured planets, basically ruling in the Clans' stead in many cases) with plans on reverse-engineering Clan Tech and ultimately trying to fight the Clans once they've worn themselves out against the Successor States and rule all of humanity.
Though, the plan quickly changes when ComStar finds out that the Clans' goal is to conquer Earth, which is ComStar's seat of power... :(

I remember running into the Thunder Hawk a year ago (or something like that) when I was searching for 'Mechs I would stuff into MW4 if I had the technical know-how. Saw the name, got curious, checked its page, fell in love... ironic for someone who, at the time, hated ballistic weapons (I used to spit on them and choose lasers and PPCs all the way).
And if they did put it into MWO, it would be nice considering the multiple ballistic hardpoints (and I know some people have been dying to see an IS 'Mech with such a trait that is also heavier than a Cataphract). Then I could make a 100-ton version of my CTF-4X with its triple AC/5's. :( Or even bump them up to LB-10 X's, and let the Alpine hailfire commence! :D

So after Kerensky and his Star buddies left, Comstar just remained as a middleman that provided services to the rest of the warmongering-among-each other Houses?

Then after Clans invaded, they sided with Clans for the time-being when they can defeat clans themselves?

Why try to destroy the tech though in the "Shroud" campaign? They didn't want any house to get good technology that could make them superior?

Yes. Comstar is lead by the fanatical followers of Blake who believe in technology as a sort of God. They chose to remain impartial, to do their part to help bring humanity into the future and into a new age of peace and technological harmony. They never act out in the open unless it is nonviolence, or to protect their HPG Stations or planetary buildings. They do however act behind the backs of basically everyone and have different motives.

When the clans attacked, Comstar sent their Precentor Martial, Anastasius Focht to meet with the Il-kahn Leo Showers, offer the clans help, and prepare for a time when Comstar could fight back against the clans and "save" humanity. When Leo Showers died and Ulric Kerensky was named Il-Khan, the clans returned to the Inner Sphere, and again Anastasius Focht met with the the new Ulric Kerensky. This time, however, the current Primus Myndo Waterly was present, and Ulric told both of them that the clans had planned to retake Terra(Which is basically owned, operated, tilled, milled, chopped, screwed, and any other analogy that could mean owned by, COMSTAR) so things change, Anastasius and the Primus leave. Anastasius, working under Myndo, decides to challenge the Clans to a fight for Terra on a proxy planet called Tukkayid. If the clans win they get Terra. If the clans lose, they can move no farther toward Terra for 15 years.(That's like 3 generations of an entire race of people dedicated to ONE THING AND THEY'RE NOT REALLY GONNA GET TO DO THAT ONE THING.) Clans lose. Fantastically lose, but lose. Clan Wolf is the only clan to secure their objective, though Clan Jade Falcon came sort of close. The rest just got creamed.

Fact of the matter is, PPCs and Gausses make an OP combo in Battletech too. Instead of weakening them, they should maybe make some others more capable. (eg LL. Pulse lasers)

That mech is an old-fart Star League Inner Sphere resident apparently. Not super advanced new Clan mech. That is the funny part.

That is why I made (out of great ignorance), this thread with surprise why such a beast is not in the game or popularity. It can take on Dire Whale EASILY, and still be an IS mech lol.

DWF are DPS monsters in this game, I just wish there was some balance tweaking for IS with more capable IS.

However, that is apparently impossible because lore-wise these mechs are lost to Inner Sphere Neanderthals until 3055 or something.

But Star League tech is super advanced.
I don't like to say others what do, but you can start your dive in BT lore by reading something like this. It takes approx 20-30 minutes and gives basic understanding about how things works here.

So are the Star-something-something guys, were actually extremely high tech? I found a few other mechs that are seemingly almost as powerful as Direwolf, but they exist in like 2500s

Yes, the Star League was a united humanity with advanced technology. After it splintered, there were centuries of war between the different factions (the Successor States), and a lot of technology was lost because so many planets were ravaged.

Then, the Clans (who were originally part of the Star League) returned from out on the edge of space, and they still had their advanced technology. Around the same time, the Inner Sphere began to regain some of the lost technology, both by reverse-engineering stuff they captured from the Clans, and by recovering some "memory cores" from the Star League era.

Gauss Rifles are kind of garbage in MWO and about to be unusable if more than two are triggered. Go ahead and rave on about the de-sync Gauss invented for MWO's weak mechs, but it's really weak outside of it's one dimension. Of course a Thunder Hawk could carry 3xAC10 or maybe 2xAC10 and an AC20.

Ideally if CW is seasonal with resets, factions could work towards their goal of unlocking certain memory cores to grant access to certain Tech 3 items. Each core having different options. So, you can still own them if you own them, but can't equip or use them in CW until that time.

It's an idea, but with the current arena deathmatch casual fest we have, probably nothing of the sort will happen.

You mean a sniper weapon is not good outside of its sniper role? That sounds pretty normal to me.
