Well fire away!!!!! Yup I said it, place your Target Reticle on that enemy and as long as they are under 1000 m your missiles will fly out to where your Reticle was placed when fired.
WHAT?!? NO WAI!!! THEIR IS NO LOCK it will fail!!!...... Wrong well mostly wrong. LRM's are greatly enhanced with a Lock-on, but by default they "Line of sight" to where your Target Reticle is placed, meaning they will then fly to where your Targeting Reticle was placed when fired. Just like a AC round except slower and the missiles fly in a much larger arch.
But the key is the enemy has to be in line of sight you have to be able to place your Target Reticle on them.
Give it a try in Test Lab, point at something 180-1000 meters away and fire missiles they will arch up and down to hit where your reticle was placed.
Pro's
- People tend to think ECM + Range = invulnerable mode meaning they will sit out in open blasting away if not under direct laser fire. Meaning I can usually sneak in a shot or 2 on them.
- Without LOCK-ON I am not sure but doesn't appear they are warned if missiles are incoming. As i usually can get a shot or 2 before they run I am thinking they are not being warned. This would require testing to be sure of.

This is, indeed, the case.
Thanks for confirming
- Can also use to keep enemy hidden in cover fire at spot they may come out of they are less likely to step out when missiles are coming down.
- Curious if an enemy is hidden down a path pick a point along that path and fire some LRM's use enemy AMS auto target to see if they are there.
- Gives ya something to do and can be rather effective when ECM is everywhere
- Highly amusing vs Atlas D-DC's MU HA HA HA HA

Con's
- As there is no lock the missiles will not follow them if they move. So very good chance missiles will miss if they move. So stick to firing at guys off to side not under direct fire they are more likely to sit out.
Enjoy
