I remember the first time playing the board game. I took the Marauder because of Robotech. I wished it had just 2 more heat sinks!

My dad bought me MechCommander 1 (not gold) back when I was like 10-ish (I'm 21 now). Since then, I've played MechCommander Gold, MW3, MW4, MW:LL, and MechAssault. I've just started getting back into BattleTech now, with MW:LL and reading some of the novels and such.

Started when it was originally called Battledroids. 1984. ;)

I remember making our group's monthy run to the gaming store and picking it up, and we were hooked immediately. D&D fell the wayside in no time flat, and from there forward, our group was pretty much 80% Battletech/Mechwarrior with the other 20% keeping things fresh with stuff like Renegade Legion, Star Warriors (Star Wars fighter combat game), Star Trek Starship Tactical Combat Simulator, and Axis & Allies. Good times.

Started playing the TT version in 87-88

Then was lucky enough to live 40 minutes away from the original Battletech Center in North Pier Mall...

God I miss those days, hope that this will help provide a experience that is almost as much fun as those days.

I stumbled into my local game shop just about 17 years ago, and saw 20 people playing this strange and interesting miniature game with GIANT ROBOTS! and really haven't looked back since.

We've had quite a few new registers in the last few months, I've bumped this for new votes to continue to get a feel for the average time spent in the Battletech universe.

I've been part of the battletech universe for the past 18 years.

I'm 19 years old and started out with Mechwarrior 2 and moved on to play the rest of the games, play classic battletech, and read every last one of the classic novels.

If you mean MechWarrior, then about ten years, I've been playing 31st Century Combat since I was about six. If you mean BattleTech, then only a couple of months- I started getting into the fluff only very recently.

Table top and the first edition MechWarrior RPG supplement back in 1986 every lunch period when I was in middle school, then high school, college, and adulthood. Friend of mine from back then nearly died laughing when I said.......

"Y'know, exactly 25 years ago I was messing with an Atari computer while reading the latest issue of New Mutants after a game of BattleTech. And today, I'm messing with an Atari computer while reading the latest issue of New Mutants after a game of BattleTech."

More things change, the more things stay the same I guess.

I started playing MechCommander when I was in the single digit ages, I don't quite remember... I'd say something like 12 or 13 years. I didn't start getting into the lore until about a month ago, though.

Started with the SNES game in '93. That was old by week 2, so I Tried MW1 for the PC. So 19 years of being a virtual 'Mech jockey. Never got into TT (sorry purists), but I have read a couple of the books, and love the Lore. BT/MW would make for several good movies IMHO.

BTW, I went to check out how long it had been since I started this love of mechanical destruction on Wikipedia. I almost died laughing at the system requirements for the old PC games... A 90 Mhz Pentium? Really? HAHAHAHA!!! Ahhh, the good ol' days!

Bought the TT game in the late 80's. '88 or early '89 if memory serves, so 23 - 24 years.

"21 or more years"

I started out with "Mechwarrior" (Activision 1989), went to Mech2, Net Mech, Mercs, MW3/4.
