first, it is obviousl that folks don't use the test servers, even when they announce tests. It might be better if they gave it a week, but maybe not. Maybe our population is just not big enough.

Agreed, but I'll speak to my own experience with that:

1) They typically open them in the middle of work days.
2) They don't keep them open long enough.
3) Players don't often get feedback about the nature of the test results, nor what changes happened as a result of testing. If they did, they'd probably be more inclined to feel like the tests meant something.

To quote a unit mate from our forums

"C-ERLL need to be tweaked a little this is extreme thou.

Honestly thank Jagger XII " Tyler" for this BS he brought up laser spamming, and lack of skills it takes, and the way to work around the ghost heat with different size of lasers and higher damage of like 98 points. Thou it takes more skill to keep that higher laser alpha on target plus its spread. Unlike the pin point high alpha of ER/PPC+ Gauss Rifle. Listen to NGNG Pod Cast #117 and you can see where this BS came from.

Why are they letting the competitive meta ****** players drive this game? They need their own play ground. E sport brackets, just have a queue for that douche bag and all his high followers. They talk about not wanting to bring their work pants to every game. Well here is a great idea try something other then meta, and see the game is fun without it. Stop playing the meta and change your damn way of thinking and making a twitch channel (MWOPro ) dedicated to meta, your reinforcing other players into the same trap "

Back to the main point, Clans have range advantages...Inner Sphere has PP damage advantages.

:snip:

And don't forget that IS mechs get a HUGE speed and maneuverability advantage. If the IS pilots would just, like you say, use tactics.

Tactics like, flanking and repositioning. Use their maneuverability advantages to constantly harass a Clan flank with pot shots. When the Clan mechs turn around, then run off, and go to the other flank. Keep taking their flanks until you run them down. I've seen this used only a handful of times by IS teams, but it's worked almost every time I've seen it. Instead, Is pilots want to stand there and duke it out. The IS mechs aren't built for that! The answer is NOT to nerf the hell out of the Clan weapons.

What's the point of PPCs now? They were already impossible to hit with. Now you'll be able to see them coming and dodge.

Not sure if your tracking but the speed change for PPCs is either exactly matched to AC-10 or within 100 of them. So basically the clans get sync'd PPCs and the IS gets to play street fighter.

Not to mention that slowing them down actually reduces them as an effective long range weapon? Which is what you say their intended for? It seems to me at first glance that this accomplishes the exact opposite of its intended purpose.

#3 is very true. The feedback has been ignored multiple times.
#1/#2 are partially true. PGI left the servers open for 12 hours the last few tests, and the STILL got ****** populations. Even when they offered premium time for testers who did X number of games. again, small population.

Instead of thinking every time the nerf ... why not simply increase the charging time? is it so difficult? One shoots Ppc ok waiting up to 10 seconds without shooting!

love, love, love the new changes to PPC and Clan ER Large.....I didn't use either of them, and those mechs that just like to sit in the back and snipe cowardly will have a tougher time doing so.

Kudos PGI

Meh, it's pretty obvious that only the more hardcore players would have spent the large amount of actual money to buy clan mechs packages, so it stands to reason that they would be playing better and finding all the best builds. I guess nobody thought about that but instead only listened to the whining from the free to play crowd. They looked at the wrong metrics, yes 90% of matches are won by teams with more clan mechs, but it's the 10% of veteran players that put up the money to buy them that are making that happen. In my opinion they should have reserved judgement until EVERYONE had access to them to see how they actually worked. Now we just have a fustercluck and they are blindly nerfing everything to keep the free to play people happy. The end result is pissing off the core players that will no longer spend money to appease the FTP players that can't compete, and honestly couldn't compete even if all the vets decided to use one IS mech with a specific build. So everyone loses.

Why is it that you NEVER LEARN to make small adjustments to one or two variables at a time and insist on going for complete overkill with the nerfs. The change to the PPC projectile speed without huge other changes is a good example of what to at least try in balance changes.

Changing ERLL ghost heat to trigger at 2 is simply idiotic, especially in light of all the other changes you made at the same time. There is absolutely no way to tell what changes are having an effect, because they will be nearly unusable. Not to mention that this severely affects the smaller clan mechs which weren't even the problem to begin with, it was the heavies and assaults with 4 or more that were the issue.

I had a feeling the C-ERLL was going to be nerfed soon, but not that drastically. Wouldn't reducing the range & damage, and increasing heat & cool down be a better first step?

Something like...

Reduce optimal range to 750
Reduce damage to 10 - 10.5
Increase heat to 9.5 - 10
Increase cool down to 4 seconds

The PPC changes are disappointing too. :)

I guess we'll see how it all works out this weekend though. It'll be interesting!

I think the point is, Clan mechs already have the penalties - if you own them you know the quirks, limitations due to hard points, locked engines, locked internals...which is why clan lights are slow. They can't upgrade their engines.

If you don't own them...engine, FF armor, endo are all locked. Chasis also have quirks (penalties like energy weapon recharge delays when taking certain weapon pods).

These negatives/penalties offset the range advantage. Nerfing weapons based on bad feedback, bad testing (IS threw away matches with poor tactics, poor builds, and in some cases just by not playing...they died on spawn) and prior to 10 v 12 testing is bad methodology all around.

The real grievance is the massive number of changes at one time a single weapon system gets.

Make a small change, observe, listen to feedback, adjust....common sense.

Back to the main point, Clans have range advantages...Inner Sphere has PP damage advantages. If we are making all things equal which seems to be the goal, then immediately implement the same AC firing mechanism that clans have for Inner Sphere mechs. My AC40 Jaeger does a ton of butt hurt on clan mechs when I took it out during the tests. Guess AC20s are OP too - perhaps their max range should be only 90 meters, their projectile speed cut in half, reload doubled and their ghost heat tripled using the C-ERLL logic?

I for one would not play a game where we all have to take the same mech, use the same weapons, and must stand still and fire at one another across open terrain without being allowed to use cover, tactics or my brain to out smart, out play, out skill another in what should be a skill based rewarding game. This is where these "make us all equal, make all weapons equal" balance (and I use the term balance with sarcasm) changes have been heading ever since Paul started with the Highalander and Victor, Gauss, and JJ nerfs.

Heaven forbid part of the player base think and try hard. We all must obviously conform to the PGI norm, and noobs should be on equal footing with those of us who have been around since startup right out of the box.

You are generaly right, but because i don`t own clan mechs i`m on the other side of the spectrum and understand PGI logic qute well. Balance is the thing they wish to achive. I know about TT cannon but this is different and clan mechs are overpowered. Ton per ton all their atributes are way beyond IS mechs: firepower, speed the most important. TW goes 88+ kph and has JJ at top that and firepower it packs is ridicilus not to mention Direwolf that can core Atlas in 2-3 sec in toe to toe fight. So BRAVO to PGI once more.

Beautiful ... in this game Physics does not exist, the more quickly and less hot to cool it, you cool down only when a weapon has finished shooting -.- ''

That's what they are paying lip service to here, but I sincerely doubt they will listen.
