Got it with my Tbolt 9S, one of my absolute favorites and almost stock. LOVE that mech.

Just finished my 20 kills alternating between my 9 ML HBK-4P and a LPL Battlemaster. The 4P was probably my most successful since its a low profile target with a nasty alpha strike.

This challenge has turned me into a bad, greedy player though. I chased a Jenner around HPG Manifold in a Battlemaster sustaining heavy damage to get one kill. This is why I think awarding for wins is probably a better idea.

Yeah, I did the same. To make matters worse, I've been trying to get all the 2,500 assist achievements (have them for Mediums and Assaults, about 100 away on Lights), so I've been going for hits over kills for the last couple weeks. Like you, for the last couple hours, I'd go right after a mech if it was damaged and even die in the process just to get that kill.

Thankfully, the 9S is a tank, so it can take a lot of damage before it goes down.

So I finished the challenge using only Locusts, since those are all I have that qualify. I re-bought the LCT-1E since it was on sale, though the LCT-1V and LCT-3S did the heavy lifting. It took be about from 10:30 PM to 12:00 PM to finish.

Quad SRM2 is a very nasty set of weapons..

Got to 19 kills within a couple of hours....then the dry spell from Hades. Was in a match in Caustic, knocked out a Hunchie....and everyone started line dancing. AAAAAAAARG! The server just finally gave up completely and lag won the match.
Luckily, it seems to have counted the kill and I got me a new mech bay.

Did the deed in my Mastered WVR-6R that I loaded with an AC5, 3 SRM4's, a ML, a MG and an AMS. She used to pack an LB10x so her name is SHotgun Bluz.

Thanks for the event, PGI. Other than a few server hiccups things went smoothe.

As for the "KS" factor: I just warned everyone at the start of the matches that I had severe lag issues, so if they planned to dive in front of my guns they could look forward to losing a chunk of booty :)

20 wins in a Steiner backed 'Mech is fine, but 20 kills?

The problem is that no one is attempting to use team work to win, no one is backing anyone up, everyone is in their little sniper 'mechs and this isn't what I play this game for. I love the teamwork aspects of MWO and how there are phases of a match, how we can have long range engagements, brawling, capturing bases, etc. Everyone usually gets a chance to enjoy their particular play-style. Instead everyone is just out to get kills.

People are hanging back and sniping at each other and that is the entire match, PPCs and ACs flying around with some LRM barrages, but no one is trying to advance on the field. The most effective 'mech I've seen for this is a Banshee with 2xPPCs and 3xAC5s, but again the pilot didn't really care about backing up his team so much as "stealing" as many kills as he could.

If I wanted to play CoD I would, but I don't, so please reconsider this decision for future endeavors.

P.S. I wonder if there is a way for you to see how often people purposefully don't hold locks so that only they get the kill? I'd love to see those stats.

Really interesting challenge. Those "get 5 wins" challenges don't depend on personal skill much while "get 20 kills on certain mechs" is fun. I managed to get it in less than 2 hours with Thunderbolt-9S. It's a killing machine. 20 kills, 3 deaths.
I wish more events like this in future like "Kill 20 clanners using IS mechs" or "kill 10 asssaults with light mechs".

Also I'm still waiting for Jade Falcon weekend. Want JF colors sale!!!

I am a moron.. I was at 15/20 and I saw "Shadowhawk" on the list and decided to hop into my SHD-2D2. Got a handful of kills, and saw my status was still at 15. "Hmm ok, it might just be taking a while to update."

Of course then I actually read the list more carefully I saw that the only Shadowhawk supported was the 2H (and it's champion/phoenix versions).

<---- Did not read instructions

For me, the BLR-1S did most of the heavy lifting. LRM 15x2, LRM 10x2, MLx3, TAG, BAP. Fired the missiles in a death blob against armored targets. The 360 XL engine gives it decent repositioning speed to get where the baddies are. Against orange cores, I switched to chainfiring the missiles and was able to nab a few kills.

For a new player, the Kintaro trial with its LRM 5x5 in chain fire might be handy for stealing kills and getting the task done.

the correct term would be "Gott bewahre!" ... "Himmel hilf" would also work, but means "heavens help us" :)

Are you kidding me? What I saw today, due to the challenge, was some of the best teamwork I've seen in ages. Everybody was moving together as a single unit, in solo queue, on both teams. We weren't even communicating! Everybody was playing aggressive, glomping onto the nearest target and killing it dead as fast as possible.

This trend continued into group queue as well, where I got 15 of my 20 kills.

It was seriously awesome. All brawling all the time, everywhere. It was like the first Clan PTS all over again!

I agree, I had more fun today than I've ever had in pug matches. P

This challenge would be more fun if they disqualified kills by LRM.

Nice challenge guys, really! Done it by using TDR-9S, so mech from another challenge :-). And the side effect of significantly lowering the number of clan mechs on the field is also interesting. Well done.

So this is "20 killing shots" not "20 kills/assists" correct?

God this is going to suck, 12 people all swarming all over each-other trying to get the killing blow... Massive friendly fire, lol

our little drop witnessed about 6 team kills last night, exactly as you described.

soooo, I didn't know the Kintaro was a Steiner Mech..... http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Kintaro

Also, the list of Steiner designs....

yea.....

Not exactly cannon... lol

There have been quite a few decent matches for me, people seemed to be working together more. I would like to see much more team work instead of people just barking orders.

http://www.catalystd...ewUnitList.asp?

Steiner event mechs are not only canon, but VERY canon. As in, can't get more canon in this list unless you can convince Randall Bills to change it... which I doubt.

Catalyst Game Labs is currently leasing the BattleTech rights from Topps, and basically anything Catalyst Game Labs has written up about BattleTech IS canon.

I think we should be happy that PGI is trying to be more BattleTech canon.

Edit: I don't think I wrote canon enough, so... canon canon canon canon canon canon canon canon canon.

Okay, I'm done. Canon.

I completed it using my TBT-7M, AWS-8Q, ON1-K, and VTR-9B without issue. Surprisingly my TBT-7M was the workhorse and got the majority of the kills.

doh why are so many ppl complaining... just used the kintaro with its 5 lrm's while the 2 med pulses did an amazing job too. if not, the shadow hawk with its midrange is a nice option too. so trial mechs totally do the work.

20 kills are seriously not that hard.... maybe as a total new player it might be but even with support loadouts it's going fine. as long as you go for it while the clanmechs aren't flooding the field :D
