Here's an idea, sticking with the scout / recon theme of the 5D and 5V

TAG/NARC spotter

TAG and NARC
2x JJ and XL 255 let you run back to the group if you get in trouble
2x MG and 1x MPL let you do some crits if enemy has lost armor

Jenner might do it better

You could but the offensive firepower is pitiful losing the missile and the medium laser would make you a joke to your targets as mgs are pointless early on in a match

I am considering upgrading from a 255xl to the 270xl. Anybody find that the extra speed makes that much of a difference. My style is basically hit and run with 2mpl and either srm4+Artemis or srm6.

More speed is good if you dont have ECM cloak

Powerdown also works in a pinch, they cant see you from behind unless they have the module and you are already targeted.

i go for 270 coz speed is life for light, more speed - longer life) but there is 2 ways of playn - srm6 and srm4+ artemis, srm4+artemis -you can take a distance, srm6 - distance 0 )))

what you do? move behind and then press powerdown?

Move out of sight, and if you have enough time/distance then powerdown and wait. When they walk past and have their back turned, you can power up again and wont show on their radar.

Thanks for the input, let me be a little more specific. I am wondering if anyone has used both and felt that upgrading to the 270 from the 255 was worth spending the c-bills. (I am still collecting mechs and am working on mastering commandos right now, but the anansi and the 5d are my favorites so and I am still tweaking them to get them right where I want them, so c-bills are hard to come by sometimes.)

With the srms I run the 4+artemis mostly, (totally makes a difference at range) but sometimes if I have had too much coffee I throw the srm6 on and go all MonkeyCheese on 'em

Depends on the spider. I don't own the anasasi, but in my 5K, I actually run a 280XL. This is largely because that mech doesn't have as much punch to it and move becomes the more important word in "stick and move"

In my 5D, I run an XL235 and go with max jumpjets and 3xMPL.

I guess my real conflict is that the 285 or 280 seems more universally usable (raven 3l, firestarter, Jenner, spider 5k & v). But I suppose the 270 would work for all of those as well in a pinch. I wish they had capped the Anansi at 285 like the other spiders.

I haven't really run the Anansi lately...I think my current build is xl270, 2 mpl, srm 4. I never find machine guns that useful.

LPL lights have become pretty popular. I don't know if reducing the stone far enough for 2
LPL would be viable or not. The 5k would do 1LPL better. But maybe an LPL/srm4 build of some sort...it would be unique at least.

I know and lpl that I start using back in days still good - but ananasi with srm 4 with erll not bad....and lpl but really good run I has on build with srm 2 2spl 2mgs bap about 500 dmg and couple solo kills and kkmd

in my opinion - speed=life for spider sp I'm always go 255xl - look at that picures - I made them couple days ago while figuring out the build that will dun good so - I'm tier 2 player
