Currently there is virtually no XP awarded for capping. I suggest that for capping missions, the following type of xp rules apply:
xp/c-bills awarded for damage done cut in half (unless attacking/defending a cap point)
xp/c-bills awarded for a kill cut in half (unless attacking/defending a cap point)
xp/c-bills awarded for damage done 100% if defending or attacknig a cap point
xp/c-bills awarded for kills if defending or attacknig a cap point
xp/c-bills gained for each second spent in an uncaptured cap point
xp/c-bills gained for increasing the strength of a currently held cap point
xp/c-bill bonus for capturing an enemy cap point
xp/c-bill bonus for maxing out the strength of a friendly cap point
xp/c-bill penalty for not winning a cap mission by cap
defending a cap point = firing at enemy mechs from within the boundaries of a cap point
attacking a cap point - firing at enemy mechs that are within the boundaries of a cap point
These types of changes should lead to players sticking to the mission instead of just heading out to do max damage.
It would be even better if both teams didn't have the same objective. One team should be tasked with defending the cap points, the other with capturing them but that is a discussion for another time.
