Consider the XL 295 instead of the XL 300. It saves half a ton for just 2 kph speed reduction and it can actually fit in a RVN-3L, unlike the XL 300. But the XL 300 is still a very good engine with plenty of other uses.

yes, having an engine that can work in many mechs is a good thing.. Not sure how the XL-275 works in a jenner for speed, but there is a thread about that under the mech guides to figure it out...

that said, I know 2 models of ravens that max out on 275.. the XL version comes in one variants of 3 different of the 55 ton mechs, shawdow hawk, wolverine, and griffin. When starting out, getting an engine that can work in a bunch of mechs you might wan't to try, even if they are not the optimal builds is sometimes a better way to go. Flexibility is always your friend.

Don't know if anyone said it, but you could also make a build with an XL280 instead of XL300. The 280 is useful in other mechs too.

Very valid point here. Personally I wouldn't go any smaller than this, but you might very well want to snag a 295 instead of a 300 because not only will it bring your Jenners up to speed, but it is also the max engine for

Raven 3L (like Shlkt said)
Alllll the Firestarters (excellent light chassis that)
Blackjack BJ-1X (The 'FastJack', if you ever decide to go with 'Jacks, this one rocks)

and can still fit in every chassis that the 300 will
