MASC will most likely just deal straight damage to the internal structure while in use.

I'll wager heat. Either linear or exponential.

I'm putting my money on heat as well. I imagine MASC will have an implementation similar to "sprinting" in other FPS games (IE: hold shift to run extra fast, generating heat as you do).

Paul previously confirmed via Twitter last October (that is, October 2013) that MASC would cause internal damage to a 'Mech's legs if overused.

What's the drawback 2 using MASC? According 2 canon, it damages the legs internally if used too long. Is that implemented?
Russ Bullock@russ_bullock Oct 15th
no there is no MASC yet. MASC was for the Flea not the locust
Twitter User Oct 15th
Understandable, but are you guys going to implement that drawback to it?
Russ Bullock@russ_bullock Oct 15th
I dont have that answer, may need to ask @bryanekman or @Paul_Inouye on the design team.

Paul_Inouye@Paul_Inouye Oct 15th
when MASC is implemented (no timeline) it will cause internal damage when used too much.

Twitter User Oct 15th
Thank you Paul. Glad you responded. Sounds good.

We also know, from "OmniMech Rules & Construction", that MASC will be locked equipment for OmniMechs.

Quote

  • If not present, MASC cannot be added by the player.
  • If present, MASC cannot be removed by the player.
  • If present, the location MASC occupies cannot be changed.

The Shadow Cat mounts its MASC system in the CT, where it consumes both crit slots.
Additionally, four of the six locked Jump Jets fill the legs (with one each of the other two locked into each side-torso), and there is a locked Endo-Steel crit filling the head.
As such, each of the three configurations - the Prime, A, and B are the only ones available until 3061 - would have to be distinguished by quirks (turn speed quirks, torso pitch/twist speeds & ranges, acceleration/deceleration quirks, etc).

I can see it now... Clan reinforcement pack! Mad dog, Shadow cat, Dasher, and the Executioner. Since we fixed masc we can put that in there too. Who doesn't want an assault moving 86 kph before tweak. Lol.

I do see this happening... another Clan Pack upgrade announcement at around Halloween/Thanksgiving/Christmas.

My list of likely candidates:
Assault - Kodiak, Executioner/Gladiator (Gargoyle/ManO'War is a longshot along with the Supernova)
Heavy - Vulture/Mad Dog, Loki/Hellbringer
Medium - Shadowcat (can't think of anything else iconic and within timeline, outside of the Hunchback IIC)
Light - Firemoth/Dasher (can't think of anything else outside of Jenner IIC)

That should cover most of it.

After the timber wolf the shadow cat is my immediate next desire. Just like the OP, I really want this mech. Here's hoping the mysterious info that the shadow cat is already practically done just waiting on a new special is true.

Do not forget my viper! I think the fast viper will be better than most give it credit for.

Will MASC be balanced by ghost speed? The faster you are the slower you get. ;)

Assuming PGI can get their netcode to a state where MASC is practical, I would think that the next pack(s) would round out the remaining eight of the "original 16" OmniMechs from TRO 3050.
  • Light: Dasher and/or Koshi
  • Medium: Dragonfly and/or Fenris
  • Heavy: Vulture and/or Loki
  • Assault: Man O' War and/or Gladiator
It could be done either as one large pack containing all eight, or perhaps two separate packs of four 'Mechs apiece (containing one of each weight class)...?

After that, there could then be a four-'Mech "Battle of Luthien package" containing the Hankyu (as the Light), the Shadow Cat (as the Medium), the Cauldron-Born (as the Heavy), and the Kingfisher (as the Assault).
The first three (the Hankyu, Shadow Cat, and Cauldron-Born) all made their Inner Sphere debut at the Battle of Luthien, despite existing prior to the Clan Invasion. The Kingfisher isn't noted for being at the Battle of Luthien, but is the only one of the four Clan Assault 'Mechs presented in the same TRO as the Battle of Luthien 'Mechs (the other TRO 3058 Clan Assault 'Mechs being the Supernova, Turkina, and Kodiak) that has enough timeline-appropriate variants/configs to work in MWO.

*Chant* "Shadow Cat...Shadow Cat...Shadow Cat!" *End Chant*

Me like and me want! It was one of my favorite Mediums from MW:4, and I could really go for it here in MWO! ;)

I am just now running across this : http://mwomercs.com/...urning-to-3049/

Seems like we'll be waiting till at least next year likely before the shadow cat show up or till pgi finally gives in to the urge to run yet more package deals.

Gold Shadow Cat......mmmm......
