I don't know the logistics involved in this, but there is currently a decent amount of F2P titles available via Steam. I believe this would substantially increase the visibility of the game and open it up to a much wider audience. Steam releases have even proven to breathe life into dying F2P titles.

If there is a financial or logistical issue that restricts this from happening I'd love to know.

Steam places a lot of demands on developers, quite a few of them ridiculous, you can google it for more in-depth information. I don't see the devs bowing to Steam's requirements as it would hurt the game more than help it.

Yeah... let's not... Steam might be cool, but I don't like that it has to pop up and take time to load when I would rather be just jumping into the game.

I would consider offering MWO on Steam as helpful as having a hole in my head...

So, if you bring it to Steam, please make sure it is still availbale in other ways.

In my experience in-house installers/updaters can be completely horrible; take Hi-Rez's F2P Tribes Ascend launcher for example. Granted the cons, I still think it would be a mistake to overlook what is effectively the largest PC gaming community.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Those "other ways" should be a stand alone installer.

I think Steam would be a great idea, I'm yet to Google the demands that it makes, but it's pretty good publicity. Was it DCOU that trippled their sub base and the like?

Steampowered games (games you can only play with Steam) are a little bit of a sore point with me though, varity is the spice of life! Pop it on Steam but let people install it stand alone too.

I know that Steam's approach to in app stores is pretty harsh and they have other restrictions in place. It might not jive well with the founder aspect that they have just launch. Steam may kill the perks of the people that supported the project financially.

Steam would be a great place to get exposure but make sure you have a stand-alone download option too!

I'm surprised how many people are smart enough to realize for a F2P game Steam is not a great starting point. A lot of F2P games in my opinion go onto steam, because if they didn't they would have died.

Steam takes % of every single cash shop purchase the player on steam makes, which means it basically takes a large portion of a cash shop's bread and butter. While steam is great for indi developers and box games it's actually a bad call for the MMO market to seek out Steam first. Most games that have lost a tons of subscribers within the first three to six months go to steam.

Steam could be a vital avenue for exposure to over five million potential players. ValvE may take a cut out of every currency purchase done from them, but so does UltimatePay and Paypal as it is.

Steam has done nothing but have a positive impact for the likes of All Points Bulletin: Reloaded, and even introduced a payment processor I can trust. (Prior to Steam release, I had to buy my credit from those seedy advertising groups that offer "Free" credit in exchange for completing offers, then never actually paying up when you did.)

APB:R has it's own stand-alone client if you prefer not to use them. I use Steam a good portion of the time as-is, and having it tied to my SteamID would even be a better convenience as well.

I'd rather not deal with Ultimate Pay again.

for my 2 cents worth, this game should never be on steam or origin.

It'd be great to know why. I'm seeing people post "It shouldn't ever be on Steam" when there's really no legitimate reason to not be (whether it's there at launch or later isn't part of the argument.) F2P games need exposure, Steam provides that exposure.

Because Steam and other similiar services like their control over something a little bit to much. While I have had a couple decent dealings with their customer support more often then not they are clueless, and don't care if your money disappeared with no product to show for it. Origin is just as bad, when they screw up they usually don't care. The only time the problem was fixed was after a week of talking with different agents all doing the same thing every day. They gave me a oh so awesome $20 credit towards my next purchase...2 weeks later go to use that credit and oh look it's expired sorry bout that, thanks for calling.

Yeah, Steam and Origin can go play in a Atlas's reactor together.

There are plenty of ways a game like MWO can get advertisement and exposure without lowering themselves to those type of services.
