I have put together this 5M:

And am considering this 2D build:

Thoughts?

I would ditch the AC-5. Probably go 2x LLAS + TAG + some LRM missile combo.

AC5/UAC5/2mL/2JJ's
SHD-5M
Worked well.

The 5M does not thrill me, but I guess it's ok. The 2D I'd change to this: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...fa2e2f591f0d83d The smaller launchers cycle faster, and the 15 pack would have to launch in 2-salvos (of 10 and 5) due to the tube restriction on the SHD. If you can handle the 4th weapon group, you might consider cutting the Beagle for another jet and TAG. EDIT: And before you question it, yes, I removed the third ton of AC5 ammo. Two should be plenty.

A note on the 275XL. The 280 XL is the exact same tonnage and well within the engine limits for Shadowhawks. If you already have one around that you want to use and save on c-bills, no problems, the difference in performance is small. But if you are purchasing a new engine for the mech, spend the small amount extra and get eh slightly higher rated engine. Even if it only saves your bacon once it's worth it.

Escef, what does not thrill you about the 5M? Thank you both.

I was not having any luck with the 5M so I might try this:

Here is my advice for the 5M assuming you want a 275/280XL

Flying Dragon = 2x LLAS + AC-10
Flying Centurion = 2x mlas + UAC-5 + 2x SRM4
Flying Jager = 2x mlas + 2x AC-5

You don't have to use missile hardpoints on the 5M, as they are pretty mediocre. Also three JJ is sufficient. Five is overkill.

A better question might be what about it should thrill me. It's kind of a sandblaster build with merely adequate speed.

As for your second 5M build, pull the third ton of AC5 ammo, max out your leg and CT armor, cut the head down to 16.

This weekend, I used a Hawk with Ac20, 2 MLs and 2 JJets. The standard engine (a 260 IIRC) made it feel sluggish, though the JJets allowed me to jink turns and pop light mechs like no one else's business

Here's my 5M

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...f8cb81d67c6e483

I tend to stay Just behind the forward line, shooting at people who are around 400+ meters away, while they shoot other people  the sad part is that so far i've had barely any luck in critting with the AC5. Like i'd be shooting completely cored, armorless parts and it'd just glow more red lol

SHD-5M

Good times with this build. Altough not as fast with the XL 250 engine, but thats okay. Ridge sniping and such. Good results with this one
