-lots of really good points-
The balance on a per tank basis in WOT or WT is way off kilter, not even to the point of being realistic. The Soviet Propaganda coming from those games is ridiculous. But the OP Russian **** aside, the games have relatively good balance, WT more so than WOT.
WOT just tries to match on a per-tank basis of "Team A has X# of tier Y tanks, so Team B gets X# of tier Y tanks." Which is sorta-kinda-not-really what we had in CB with the "Team A has 4 assaults, so Team B gets 4 assaults." And it failed. Horribly. Even worse than Elo matching. Because they try to make all mechs balance out, they end up making weaker mechs less desirable to play. Because I just love going against tier VI KVs in my tier IV PzIV, which is how it feels when I would take my AWS-8Q out and have to fight a herd of Dragonslayers.
WT has a nifty balance theme for their arcade fights with the garage thing going. And I've thought about the dropship emulator carrot that PGI dangled in front of our faces a while back and how instead of you selecting four mechs, you had like 250 tons to play with. So you could take ten commandos (and I would do it too...). Or you could take a Jenner, a Hunchy, a Cat, and an Atlas.Or any combination as long is it never exceeded 250 tons.
But "OH NOES, RESPAWNS R TEH BADDZ 4 GAEMZ, IT LESS SIMULATOR LIKE!!!" would be the typical response to having a respawn.
Could you imagine how much more fun Conquest would be if it was like the BF series of Conquest? You know? a ticket pool that drained by killing the enemy mechs and by holding the majority of caps? Suddenly lights have a purpose... Suddenly, the team that shows in Conquest fighting doesn't curbstomp the team that split up to cap. And as long as there are tickets, players can keep respawning with whatever their 250 tons of selected mech are.
Then there is Assault. Make assault into Attack/Defend, where one side has to guard an objective or series of OBJs while the other side has to capture/kill.
And we can just leave Skirmish as is, with the whole "one-and-done" spill, to keep the choices up.
If they did that, we'd have three radically different game modes instead of three Skirmish modes with salt and pepper added to taste.
