I do have to ask Does PGI have ANY actual methodology when it comes to figuring a mech size?
like did they bother to use any math to figure out require volume to get the required tonnage for each mech, then ensure their design would at least be CLOSE to that? or do they just "eyeball" everything and guess?

For mediums and some heavies, they seem to go by flavor text dictating that robots with less armor and firepower than bigger robots shouldn't be much smaller, despite their aforementioned sacrifices. Sometimes those robots with less armor and firepower are even bigger than the heavier robots with more armor and firepower, for no good reason.

Doh ho ho, look at the Vindicator towering over the Hunchback. The torso might be a wee bit thinner, but then the arms jut out like sails to make sure they get clipped off early every match.

Blackjack and Cicada are giggling at the Vindicator has he makes his way over the "Big & Tall" changing rooms.

trying real hard not to make a Fergusson comment here.

Bah... if people are sensitive about that then I would settle for the lights and siren activating after a kill with a PA announcement saying, "The scene is code 4." In most areas of the US that means under control/all is well/peaceful. Jazz the heroes up a bit more. The Heavy Metal cannot be the only IS mech that does something extra.

Somebody tested part of the Vindi's hitboxes.

Turns out that the entire "dome" part of the head counts as front CT, which can be hit from a lot of different angles.

And? You say resist using one pile of crap, then you offer up the next steaming pile. At least give good options, like..oh, wait for the Stormcrow?

I am not going to tell him to wait until the end of October if he wants to spend C-Bills now. Besides, he wants one of the new shinies, and I am simply offering the better of the two.

How do they keep releasing these mechs again and again with the scaling so screwed up? Endless giant mediums and tiny, compact assaults and heavies. I mean, this is not even "lack of extensive testing" territory. This is "nobody even looks at their work in context of the rest of the game content for even 10 seconds" territory.

How is it that no team leader walks by some 3D model guy's desk and says "Hey can you just show me that next to a Hunchback for a sec? Whoa-ho there skippy, that's huge. How about you tweak that down a bit."

Unfathomable. I wonder if PGI might just be outsourcing all their 3D work to some studio in Asia who is just slapping the game assets together from the concept art and not involved in the game development at any point.

What this really shows is just how SMALL lights are in comparison more than how big mediums are. Though it does beg the questions if they wanted lights to be that small then why didnt mediums all fit more between a heavy and a light in terms of size.

Always been a problem ... running lights is harder now mind you, but medius just wow.

That size comparison chart really does show a sharp upward curve from the lights to the Cicada to the rest of the mediums. It really shows how most medium mechs are too large. The slant should be more constant and the way to do that is resize the lower end mediums to make them smaller. It also shows that the assualts are barely any larger than the heavies. I think some of the assault mechs should be made larger.

I've always thought it wrong that some of the light mechs in this game are more effective than the mediums. The Spider and Firestarter seem to be able to take more hits than a lot of the larger mechs. That's just not how it should be.
