Can A Merc Create A Unit?

Ok by some technical blackouts the days before weekend I couldn't test this on the Testserver and I also can not find any answers for this in the Forum.

Can someone who has not chosen a house or clan found a unit?
If yes, how is this Unit working in the Clanwars?

Do we have a option to be a clan-merc-unit, without belonging to any specific Clan?
Do we have a option to be an Innersphere Unit not belonging to any House?

So basically 100% Merc but faction restricted to either clan or IS, that can be thrown into any battle any house does eahc time we queue up to fill gaps in the CW battles?

Dunno, but on the test server, I was allowed to create a unit and I have Clan affiliation. Granted, it was a "bare bones" unit creation gizmo, so take that for what it's worth.

think in one of the Devs post, Mercs, couldn't use an established unit name like Gray Death Legion, but can be based on it? not sure about Houses and Clans...

The canonical factions CAN NOT BE CREATED through the creator. As far as I know you have to reserve the right to use a canonical faction and be approved by PGI, though I could be wrong. Your unit takes the affiliation of whoever created it, so if you're davion affiliated the unit will be as well, Clan ghost bear will create CGB units, and its you're a merc/lonewolf it will be unaffiliated from any of the current factions as far as I know.

What I don't like is the 4 major mercenary companies (and some of the minor, better known ones) don't get affiliation options and tags like all the IS and Clans.

Affiliations that need to be added:
IS
-St. Ives Compact (Cmon, you gotta with the SIB release and its separation in the map.)
Mercenary
-Gray Death Legion
-Kell Hounds
-Northwind Highlanders
-Wolf's Dragoons
(possibly:)
-Eridani Light Horse
-Hansen's Roughriders
-McCarron's Armored Cavalry

Greetings all,

At this point, yes, to the OP's question.

- Every organization can have 'Units' with in it. If you have a group of Players that commonly play together then forming a Unit would work for them. (as detailed in the Merc unit creation post it's quite a bit to manage a Merc unit.)

- Unit formation is the first item towards CW that needs to be in place before Faction, Merc's, Clans officially enter as that type of element.

The Merc Faction Player will need to form a 'Unit' in order to be eligible to purchase the 'Mercenary Review Board' Merc Licence. (allowing them to bid for contracts) - Still future content.
- It was detailed to cost 18.8Million credits each and with a minimum of 12 members.
- This also purchased the Units Dropship.

It has not been explained how or if 'Jump-ship' costs will be required for this Merc's contracts to different locations.

Unit creation is free now...the 18.8 million cbills thing went straight down the crapper.

I think the OP was asking about people that have a Clan affiliation making Merc units, that's what I was answering. I did it on the test server just fine, but have no idea what it'll be when it goes live.

I'm kind of hoping that they'll treat the "Big" Merc units like the Great Houses...ie: allowing you to affiliate with, say, Wolf's Dragoons and making a smaller unit. Kind of like what they did in MW4:Mercenaries.

If they won't let us use the Cannon unit names for the Houses and Clan, the Merc Units wont be able to be used either.

As part of the original 'Unit Creation' thread there is a list of unit names that are not allowed to be used.

- It is quite an extensive list, with additions added in later posts.
- Mostly Lore and Canon based elements.
- But departures from these 'forbidden' names is somewhat allowed.

While our would certainly be cool to actually have a unit image specifically for the roughriders, the unit wasn't really big enough to merit that i don't think.

Although we do already have our logo on one of the mechs in game... One of the Highlanders, i think?
