Started up the launcher and hit the patch button, about 5 minutes later the whole computer froze. After 1,5 hours it was still the same.
Rebooted the thing and ran the MWO repair tool, twice, both times it got about half way through a 1.2 gb download then crashed.
Tried reinstalling from scratch, it download 627 mb of the "install base" then says "file corrupt would you like to retry?" or something similar

You have to keep running the repairtool till all is fixed.
Unbelievable piece of crap for people who dont have unlimited data.
The repairtool is a piece of **** tool. I understand your frustation.

If all else fails uninstall>Delete any MWO related folders in programs and files and also in APPDATA (Note appdata is more than likely an invisible folder so you will need to change your view settings to see it.
Download fresh and reinstall.
SHOULD DO IT!

You may need to run a chkdsk /f on all your hard drive partitions. Complete computer freeze is the computer, not MWO.

Nope definitely the MWO launcher. chkdsk says everything is fine, and the only time I get a freeze is when I try and update through the MWO launcher.

As I stated in my op, reinstall is a no go, it downloads 627mb then says the file is corrupt and restarts.

This actually did the trick, I ran the repair tool more times than I remember and eventually it said that it was all ok. Then I ran it 2 more times just to be sure, but everything seems to be working. Initially I had lower fps then before patch, but after a reboot it is back up to what I had before.

If it downloads 627 mb and corrupts it, then it sounds more like something is destroying the data on your end.

That was my thought as well, but I only have this problem with MWO. Downloading and updating through blizzard or steam works just fine. Even origin works better.

I have the same issue. This has never happened to me before on any other patches. Used the repair tool twice, but on launch I get the failed to initialize please use the repair tool again message. Will be uninstalling and patching from scratch to see if that helps.

The game crashes every single match, what a waste of time

I've been having intermittent issues with desynch/ctd/lagspikes, which is really unusual for me (given I rarely saw ctd even back when it was a generally common problem.
On the plus side, I can confirm that the reconnect feature does work (though when you return to a hail of lasers and missiles you sometimes might wish it hadn't).
