I know it has been quite a while since these where in the game, and I am more curious on when/if you are going to return this… option/feature back into the game. It has been about 2 years since this was removed and I know personally I’ve seen nothing along the line of an update on this. Is there any way we can get a timeline, for example, 6 months to a year?

Just to point out - "collisions" are in the game. If you're talking about Knockdowns, I doubt we'll ever see them again, honestly.

Well they haven't stopped with the getting back up animations... so odds are we will see them sooner or later. Hopefully.

It's a defining issue for the division between OK pilots and good pilots

I for one don't want to see collision damage. I've been bumped way to many times on the tighter maps and the damage would just be annoying.

I miss the knock-downs. It made being a stick marginally useful still rather than just being a target. It may add some functionality back to JJs too, since they've been nerfed so hard lately. It's just not worth running them anymore. :D

It's more or less something that was always in TT. Granted, the transition of rules from TT to FPS is almost 'practically impossible' just due to the nature of how TT was designed.

When knock-downs where in the game, it lead to a different style of combat. Yes, there was circling of death and balling up, but it was more skill based. Now a days, pilots just run into things, they don't even try to avoid each other. If you are afraid of getting knocked-down, you will pilot differently. Skirmishes and battles will be more spread out, but be that much more intense. The fear of getting trampled will make people more cautious.

Granted, I do understand that newer players will have bowling matches, just because they are just not 'use to it', but for the competitive side, it will offer an entirely new aspect to the game.

The following consideration is why it was removed: it's a mechanic that can be and was abused. Unless you can think of a way that it can be reimplemented such that it cannot be abused AND convince PGI that it's worth their time, it's not going to happen.

I'm all for it coming back into the game for the reasons the above poster mentioned, but with the caveat that it's not broken like it was before. The solution is really quite simple: the knockdown itself and the act of getting up goes by quickly. Maybe 4 seconds at maximum. But that would require a LOT of animation work and a fair bit of coding to tuck in all the corners and get it looking and working clean and consistent. Probably never going to happen.

I think it's more of an engine issue than anything to be honest. I know the major issue was with the Dragon, and due to it design and implementation it was "bugged" to be almost unstoppable. I think it's more or less in the engine design and coding, but I haven't touched any of that kinda of stuff in over 10 years, so I could not honestly say. I'd really like to get the skinny from PGI on this, and see where they think this might return, if it is even possible...

I think they key reason it was removed was not because of abuse like you say, but because of extreme server desyncing between the position of the mech at fall and the new position of the mech while getting back up. Was the mechanic balanced. Yes. Was it implemented well? No. Not enough self damage and damage to target, and it wacked out the hit detection. Also it gave people temporary third person view which was extremely disorienting when being suddenly sucked out of first person view.

However the argument that it should not be included in the game to make a "SKILL" based game easier ? That is entirely invalid. Was it even abused that much? Not that I remember. Any mech taking on more then 2 or 3 mechs solo is as good as dead anyway not matter what tactics they use. Hell even 2 or 3 flamer mechs against 1 mech is enough for someone to cry that flamers are op. :D
