Public Test - 72 Is Fun

If you have a build or a mech you want to try or something else to check out, try the public test.
The new map is jump jet, light mech and brawler friendly. SRM's are must for light mechs as they strafe by unloading then around a nearby corner.
Alot of places to get stuck but I guess they are working on that.

In short, this map really gets combat to be done at basically just medium and short distance. LRMs are not going to like it much, lots of cover and, just as importantly, very easy for a light or fast medium to sneak behind the lines to attack the lurmers.
I have noticed another thing, too... the fighting seems to have a bit of a tendency not to be concentrated. At least, for the time being. This may change as people learn the map and start falling into patterns. But there does not seem to be any dominating tactical/strategic positions to largely control the map from, like Alpine Peaks.
It's a fun map overall, and I welcome it gladly.

Also, I blinged out a Jester. I like this 'Mech a lot, it runs super cool for something sporting two large pulse and four mediums.

Funny, I did the exact same thing with a Jester on test. Loved it myself as well. I just might buy one at some future date because of this.

Will get one when the other variants are available in the game.

In all seriousness, does this mean the new map doesn't have any slopes or features higher than a Commando's knee?
Funny, but those that want to use enough jump jets and invest the tonnage in it can still get around fairly well. I heard some can get around better even. But i had the same none lift problems at first also.

No, it means if you actually have more than 2 jumpjets you can get to a lot of places and surprise people.

It plays like the twin AC/10 + four medlas K2, only faster and without the ammo dependency. With the modules, the range deficit is not a big issue, either.
I only wish I could mount more than two Jump Jets on it. I didn't even bother with them.

I've been trying out the Summoner, which has 5 jump jets, and it's surprising to see how many places you can't reach, or can only reach with tremendous precision and practice.
So many times, I've jumped into combat like Zorro swinging in on a chandelier, and then tried to jump up on a building or higher level to create a bit of distance from the brawlers. Half the time, the Summoner just almost makes it to the top, then falls down, hurts its legs and bumps against the wall like an imbecile, while getting blasted by the enemies.
I really hope PGI buffs jump jets again. It would make this map so much more fun and dynamic.

Yeah PGI finally did the test right and gave us 50,000 GXP, 25,000 MC and 100 million C-bills so we actually had the resources to test out mechs we wouldn't be able to otherwise, like the hero mechs. They also even made the Nova and Summoner available which is awesome though I wish they would have made them all available.
In any case, being able to test has convinced me that the Hellsinger is actually worth buying (during a 50% off sale) and that I do like the Warhorn's so I will be buying one of those.
As a side benefit, being able to actually test mechs and builds "Free of Charge" also has convinced me to actually play on the test server this weekend even though I could be playing on Live and earning C-bills. This in turn means I will have a whole slew of "bug reports" to send to PGI to assist with a smooth launch of the new map and update.

Oh don't even get me going on JJs. Russ actually logged into a match with us last night on Test and the first thing out of my mount was, "Hey Russ, any way you can FIX the JJs so we can actually jump UP instead of hovering??" Obviously he didn't respond but it is a real sore point for me so I had to get my dissatisfaction communicated while I had a chance.
Even the Nova, with its 5 JJs and being relatively light weight at only 50 tons can't jump worth crap. Only my lights have functional JJs any more. Very frustrating and very discouraging.

Heh, nice. I saw Paul in game and really had to stop myself from saying a thing or two. After a moment's thought, I just said I wish he would come to the forum more often and talk to the players. But he didn't respond either.

Ctrl/Alt/Del is your friend on a freeze
Summoners and Novas need a buff
Clan LRMs look great but as all LRMs don't deliver a lot of damage... They do however look cooler in delivery
Clan LB-X cannons sound awesome!
I do not do well using Pop Tart meta!
UAC20 has no bite and needs some serious Love!
And finally Mischief is a good team mate!
Today (As Anton) I found:
The Pretty Baby does not make a good Thug
or
The Thug will stink to the heavens in MWO
I can Live in a Spider (with ECM) if I just keep running like I have Godzilla on my posterior and fire shooting out my butt!
And CyclonerM is a fun combatant!

Seriously this reply isnt mean to be cheap or anything like that, but I have been in construction for a long while on the skilled labour end, and now and then of course there is comments like hurry up or what not. I can assure you especially years ago, the bosses knew that such comments while we were actually working, covered in sweat and dust or at a dangerous height, on sight would be taking their lives into their own hands.
This isnt the same, but i have a great amount of respect for anyone building anything of use to so many and potentially for a good few years to come. I also know from their perspective its a challenge even if everything goes right and everyone is cheering them on and a real downer to get negative and unhelpfull comments.
So anyway, no worries just saying, from their end i am 100% sure the guys and i guess girls, working on the game are trying their best.
