Finally Completed The Challenge...

Playing the solo queue for so long really made me realize how few people actually know how to play this game well. So many poor pilots. So much LRM spam. So few instances of pilots hitting R to lock a target and gather target info so they know where to shoot it.

There is a significant issue and it may be PGI's fault. There is no leveling system to show ability to move you up to the higher classes of mechs. There's also a very rudimentary tutorial that only gives the bare minimum (and without being under fire or against even a rudimentary opponent).
Individuals who do not fight like it's a team game, so be as snarky as you wish but slogging the pug queue for this tournament is rough.
Have the two of you completed the challenge?

what I find truly ironic is that I do equally well in both queues. So uhm..... ok.

i got my premium time and that's all I cared to get. If I get the cbills that's cool but I slacked off playing as soon as I get the premium time.

I think you're looking at the exception and making it the rule. Except maybe the lrm thing. LRMs strive thanks to rounds being a grab bag of might not be much/any ECM/AMS.

Then you are either profoundly lucky, or the groups you play with suck
No, if you're a decent player you can adapt and be a decent player. I'm by no means the greatest MWO player but I keep positive kdr and w/l in my favorite mechs that I use often. Doesn't matter who I drop with in them, I've learned to adapt to how I play that same mech in different queues. That's all, nothing special.

what you fail to understand is that if you have a team who throws away a 6-1 lead, and similar adventures, then there is no player in the world that can help them win.

This is part of the problem. Earlier today I had Fusion, Rigby and a few others were coordinating the team, and some guy (I have no idea who this person was, nor have I ever seen him) started contradicting what the more experienced players were attempting to tell him. You don't push out into a firing line from a choke point/single file line...
It's not surprising when you saw the stats at the end of the match. There were instances like this all day.

I had a 11-game solo win streak... oh well.
Here's a little secret.
Remember how LRMs are the greatest newbie trap? Newbies think they are OP, and good players think they suck...
ECM is the magic jesus box, and ironically, it literally functions the same way LRMs do in terms of how players perceive it... for the most part. Newbies think they are OP (and must be factored in by the MM), and good players know how to counter it...
The only difference is that the best use of ECM is a lot "more strategic" and its mechanics maximized/abused at the highest levels.
Oh tutorials... I don't know why PGI likes to quit you.

There was this particular guy I played with on Crimson Strait... and I don't recall his name (and don't want to recall) was telling the team that defending the pass (we spawned @ the upper east side spawn) is the most important contributing factor to a win.
I felt like I was on an island (fortunately, someone else agreed with my point). This is literally what you are seeing in the solo/PUG queue... people that haven't truly learned to play in a group, and telling people what "he thought" we needed to do (we lost mainly because our force split up and wasn't doing well @ focus firing).
Sad, but true.

You know, you could have tried, maybe youd have a fun and different game for once and theres no way to know if it would have been a loss or a win. I made a new account specifically for the new mechbay challenge and i had some realy weird but awesome fun games. I made a log of those games because i wanted to get some stats for the forum but realy after it was done all i wanted to talk about what happened, what i saw and fk the numbers/mechs. War is chaos, strats works only as long as the enemy plays by your rules.

I am trying... that's probably the problem.
My problem is that people believe in things that don't matter and/or make no sense. The quality of play in the solo queue is already questionable.. and when I hear things that do not match up with what actually happens, I have a problem with it.
I'm not sure I can tolerate this game after getting 18 more solo wins.

Gee, Sorry this game has new players. Must be hard that not all can be good as you.

I got my 20 and went back to the group queue.

LOL. I'm beginning to believe that too. This weekend challenge I decided to keep a W/L tally, and every time I bring out my Firestarter we lose the match. Every. Single. Time.
I thought it was too much of a coincidence. So I experimented a bit, bring out a different mech and I can go a couple of wins and then a loss or two. Then take out the Firestarter again, and sure enough, another loss.
I even tried with trial mechs, win some lose some, wins more than losses. Tried the troll Kintaro 18, and I had 9 wins in a row! So Firestarter again, and lose yet again.
What's with the Firestarter I wondered, and the only thing it differed from all my other mechs was that it had the highest W/L among all that I own. Significantly higher. I'm beginning to wonder if PGI has the MM now look at your individual mechs, instead of by class, and then stack the odds. After all, they do track everything.
Edit to add:
I gritted my teeth and ran another match in my Firestarter. I put on my game face and IMHO I did as well as I could; I worked my ass off, I ran interference, I gave intel, I harassed, I bolstered weak flanks, and I killed. And all too suddenly I found myself alone in a sea of red triangles. Last to die, top damage and the only kills in that match? All 3 were mine. If I was superstitious, I'd say my Firestarter was jinxed. Seriously, this is not funny.

In pug, you have to quickly determine what strategy your pug mate is actually capable of doing, more than which strategy is best. As someone more capable, some time dying to help your team mate to succeed is more important than doing well yourself. Too f-ing bad that it give no benefit to yourself in regard to c-bill.
The better you deal with chaos, the easier solo queue become. Those game intuitions/senses... they help, a lot.
