TBD.
Dragon Slayers were good, but I think it's the general consensus that PPCs are **** now (thanks PGI).
Thus, you have things like Stalkers/Miserys, Highlander 732, and Dragon Slayers still but with mixed loadouts not including the PPC.
Of course the clan variants like Dire Wolf are pretty good in pugs, though any clan med/heavy/ass viability in compt. play seems to be obscure since they haven't been allowed. Though, the kit fox has done decent.

Thanks for the response! At my level, 90% of what I see walking around in the Assault category are Atlases and Direwolves, so several of the variants you listed are news to me.
I wish Awesomes were better - they were always one of my favorites from MW2: Mercs. Seems like Stalkers, which I think are incredibly ugly, do everything Awesomes do but better.
Are any assaults particularly suited to loading up on autocannons? I've found several variants that could, but that doesn't mean it would be a good idea to. My preferred Heavy is a Jagermech with 3 AC5's, and I really like that playstyle.

If you like the hill humping of the Jager, you'll really like Stalkers. They can pack much more firepower and are an order of magnitude more durable.

Well, I'd be weary of anything with PPCs at this point.
They have been nerfed to oblivion, despite the fact that weapon is supposed to be a high speed energy beam.
You get much more cost/benefit from simply using lasers (any type), or even ballistics (gauss, ACs, etc..).
They have less heat, are hitscan (point and click) or have higher velocities than the PPC, and no minimum range damage (i.e. PPC 90m)

don't for get that it all so "it produces recoil" by lore, o and the fact that the way the beam works is like a pointer that masses and agitates protons/ions down it like a ball feeding it as it go so it does not just disparate form contact with atmosphere which interfer with them old protons/ions that are working in that way the beam that gathers them is instantaneous however the agerted/moveing partcales are not because of the interference of the atmosphere making it unable to turn of its rail of the beam and slow it downgiving the appearance of a ball of light of doom. As to the speed it would move at there's not a nuth data to go on. so going back top the game form me using PPC which i don't use to much i like them even with the nerth as they take what a sniper would take leading and a bit of path prediction, don't count them out they just take more skill/ a snipers mined set

I know what takes skill and how to lead targets, but the nerf made the amount to lead almost asinine.
Furthermore, it's very easy to side-step or throttle at even 600m in even heavy or assault mechs and dodge the PPC.
Another reason why the cost/benefit ratio is skewed toward it being high cost (heat, tonnage, no damage at <90M) but low benefit.

I was running that for a while, just switched it up to dual LBX with a large pulse, backed up by Dual ERLL for some range. Tag thrown in just for kicks.
