Mine was buying the DireWolf. Hands down my favorite mech in the game. Also got the TimberWolf but i have to say i don't really enjoy it as much as i thought i would.
Founder pack was best value for money spent but fun wise for me the DireWolf has no comparison (only wish my team wouldn't leave my slow arse behind so often ).

I grabbed the Direwolf clan package (Adder, Kit Fox, Nova, Stormcrow, Summoner & Direwolf) and i was quite pleased with them.
They were fresh and fun and a joy to pilot. The mechs still are... but the first big nerf to C-ERLs was so heavy handed and uncalled for... I'm afraid to continue loving the clan tech. There's a good chance it's going to be nerf-smashed into complete irrelevance.

Now if I could just gank my Founders premium from my Atlas and attach it to my Nova I'd be complete.

I spent well over 500$ including the Founders package, and have since stopped playing, though still lurk on the forums in hopes that some day PGI will do things right and finish what they promised (what 2 years ago now).

It's a valid complaint. The amount of money thats been dumped into this game leaves little excuse for the fact that it's still just a giant deathmatch with a few new maps after two years.
On that note the Stormcrow has been by far my best 'Mech. I bought it on impulse and while I somewhat regret the outrageous amount of money at the same time it's by far my fav to pilot.

I don't need any of my hero mechs, I don't need any cockpit items, I don't need premium time, anything. On the other hand, I don't regret buying that stuff, or even buying a clan mech for money, because if I didn't buy it, I would always have wondered if those were super fun and different to play. If I could go back in time and tell myself not to spend any money on hero mechs, I would.
I don't know what else I'd be willing to pay for now. It would have to be actual content, like buying a premium account to participate in Solaris VII or something like that. The only other thing that would make me spend more money on this account, would be if PGI switched to micro-transactions and everything was 90% cheaper.

I find the CERLLs to be incredibly handy for dealing with face hugging lights in my Daishi. The extra beam time lets me nuke both their legs with 1 shot.

1250 MCs, one time only, to get mechbays.
That's it. Don't know if it qualifies at being the best since it was the only one and probably will be for the time being.
Edit - To explain the last part:
I waited for the game be officially released, so they removed the "BETA" tag. I went with it and bought the MC package.
Then more often than not, I got the feeling this game was (and is) still in BETA stage. Although the tag is removed, we still have the same kind of content we had 2 years ago.
Granted, we have maps and mechs. I ask, where are all the things related to MW like dropships, tanks, fighters, planetary struggles, etc?
Until some of these things are introduced this game will feel like BETA to me... (hoping CW will bring an interesting twist to this BattleMech-combat-only-game).

It's funny about people complaining about Founders complaining, when you have to question would this game even be off the ground if the Founders never put the money up for the initial funding based on promises.
I'm sure if they said hey give us 100$ for a Deathmatch (with no ladder even) they would have gotten a LOT less money.

The best money I've ever spent in this game has been the 1200MC or so I laid down for a Champion Jenner-F. I've got more games in that baby than any other 'Mech, by far.

EMBER, brilliant mech
Also enjoy Arrow and Yen Low Wang. Phoenix ShadowHawk was worth it at the time, cause it gave me 2x3 variants for a chassis at a time where i still learned the game, and hence didn't make much money. Clan Nova Package was ok, but i'm just not really a clanner... Enjoy my IS mechs more. Dragon Slayer is ok, but not my weight class, so it's still the only Assault i own. Same goes for Ilya Muromets and heavies, although i also have the TDR-9S.
The X-5 is just sh!t. Can't get the hang of that stupid mech, although i do enjoy the CDA-3M and CDA-2A.

My Yen Lo Wang
I have had so much fun with this mech.
I downloaded the soundboard, many of us on comms right after this thing came out, we were running the sound bytes, and using the Hero in game as a group. It was a blast. Hilarious too.
Still use the Wang, still like the Wang., so yeah, it has been my best $ spent.

Sad I missed Phoenix.
Love my clan pack.
I can't say I've really regretted anything I've bought in this game to date...
Maybe selling my Illia and Yen Lo back when I took a 4 month hiatus... maybe..
