I'm sick and TIRED of this argument. While it's true that in THIS current game balance, you have to stay close to cover to survive...should it be?

I'd say that in any game that involves people shooting at you and you shooting back, that yes, you should always be near cover.

This is the problem with this Ad-Hominem argument. It assumes that everyone you disagree with is either a complete noob, or an idiot.

Lets assume I'm both. Assuming I fail at this game, and am just wandering out in the open and dying... doesn't the fact that many, MANY players (and respected ones at that!) have raised this very issue concern you? Are you so convinced that LRMS are fine as is that you're going to assume every. single. player. that wants changes to the LRM system are noobs/idiots?

LRMs aren't broken, but they need fixing, and I wish you could see that.

Actually i assume that anyone who has a problem with LRM's just hasn't learned to avoid them yet.
Asking for LRM's to be nerfed because new players have a problem with them is just wrong. You don't nerf a chess piece until the new player learns how to play chess.
If some people cannot (or I'm sure in some cases won't) learn then they should either accept that they aren't good at this particular game and accept their defeats or move on to another game.

But having said that, I'm sure LRM's will be nerfed. I've seen it in other games where something is nerfed into oblivion until it's pointless because players would rather complain than put in some effort.

Oh, and I don't think LRM's are fine. They suck, especially in direct-fire and are not even long range weapons thanks to the incoming missiles warning.

You're going to hate me, because my suggestion to balance LRMs is to have a big honkin' arrow on the HUD to show the pilot where the missiles are coming from.

I drive assaults and heavies and I sympathize - sometimes there is nothing you can do (for example, the infamous River City spawn point that is tough for assaults - but you can survive if you run for the edge fast and don't **** around).

Sometimes you get stuck with a team stupid enough to run open ground without cover, then there's not much you can do. But those are the exceptions. The default position is, as others have said, you need to ALWAYS be aware of where the cover is, which direction it protects, and which direction it does not protect - it is a survival instinct you have to develop if you're going to drive the big slow boats.

If you are unwilling to do that, then stick with the faster medium and light mechs.

What does that have to do with balance? It's just another range nerf.

Because it gives the receiving party no more excuses for not being able to put some form of cover between the incoming and himself.

After learning how to do that, we can then sit down and talk about balance.

Well as far as I'm concerned as long as missiles have a warning that they have been fired it removes any chance of them being the long range weapon they are supposed to be.

Ah ok. Fair enough perspective.
