The bad thing is that we don't know if it's the new data center causing it or it's the same issues we've been having for over a month

confirming experiencing more lag / higher ping since server migration

Melbourne here.

Haven't seen much of any change. If anything, I've seen a (almost) noticeable improvement. Used to get 260-280 ping, now it seems to hover around 260. Bummer to hear about some of you fellow aussies getting boned with worse latency. Only thing I can suggest is wait it out and hopefully the new server will "settle" and you'll see your "normal" pings return.

Ive gone from 270 ping and desyncing issues to 340 ping and desyncing issues.

makes for some nearly impossible game play

I'm from Australia. I've always had high ping but this was something you could easily get used to since gameplay was smooth. Now, enemy and player mechs rubber band constantly and IFF acquisition takes 5 seconds to response.

With these recent changes, everything but in-your-face brawling is impossible.

try using different dns servers and see if there is any improvement. they might route your packets better

DNS has nothing to do with routing.

I just made one. Hoping its just a configuration issue or something along those lines.

I play from Melbourne as well, usually my ping ranges from 260-280. Now it is 375 :P . Hopefully this is temporary, it is unplayable right now for me.

I fear those ping changes, for better or worse, will stay like this as it depends on the location of the data center.
On top, it sucks to hear that also the new data center infrastructure does not seem to have eliminated the desyncs. :-(

I know a couple from Australia... they went from an avg 280ms to like 350ms. Some reconnecting is required, so I think this change isn't helping much.

With that said though, the server is closer to the US East Coast and oddly I'm not getting any real improvement pingwise, so you're probably fortunate if you live in Europe (towards the Atlantic Ocean). Not so much on the west side (towards the Pacific Ocean).

The servers moved from Toronto to Montreal, so you may want to see how you are routed and see if there are issues with it...

was this just a physical move, or were changes/improvements supposed to have been made?

I believe this was a physical move, but you'd have to ask Niko that.

Changes/improvements may have occurred on the PTS, but TBH I don't think it helped that much more or made it that much worse...

The servers were already in Toronto. There's only so much further east you can go from there, and I doubt it's 80 ping worth of distance.

Something else is going on with the way the connection is routed to you in Australia. There are several different submarine cables to NZ/Aus, and it's possible the new data center utilizes a different configuration than before. http://www.submarinecablemap.com/

Additionally, if the ISP for PGI has changed, the way they handle gaming traffic could be completely different. Star Wars: The Old Republic suffered greatly in connection quality because the ISP for their data center treated gaming traffic with the same priority as grandma checking her yahoo mail account.

I don't know if you're willing to pay, but WTFast will reroute your connection around slow hubs and generally reduce a lot of lag from your connection.

Just my two cents.

It's those damn Yanks in New York that screw it all up. :P They suck down bandwidth like no other. I live in the Atlanta area and I've always had worse performance with servers in the Northeast than I have with ones in places like say Chicago or even Texas.

... or perhaps they're just still pissy about us and the Civil War. Who knows. But that's how it is. I blame it on all the people that live up there. ;P

From Italy (Telecom ISP) the ping is almost the same or slightly worse ~161 in the only game I played. It used to range from 15x to 16x depending the time.

PGI went to the new data center because it was cheaper, you get what you pay for.
Get use to it.
