Was having crap ping..now returned to a normal 270 ..am with telstra..happy days..anyone else noticed a change?

Do a new traceroute.

Hopefully you won't be the only one and that the routing will have been fixed.

I am also getting some pretty rough numbers, lately.

Tracing route to mwomercs.com [192.99.109.192]

For the record, before the patch, my ping was 180-210. Far from good, and lights were outright off limits, but mediums were still playable.

Having difficulty with Assaults, now.

I noticed.

I'm wondering if the hop from Japan to Asia wouldn't have been better through South Korea, as they are known for having some of the worlds' fastest internet.

I'm an Australian player who prevously enjoyed a ping of 320-350 on a 3G wireless connect (Im in a rural area and land lines are unavailable). While this made playing lights difficult it was by no means unplayable. Ever since the new data center move my ping has been between 440-480 ingame and absolutely UNPLAYABLE. I have been a long time player with a LOT of money spent on this game and I would like to continue playing but unless this issue is resolved I will be unable to play.

I can only add my two cents on the issue and wait but in the mean time I'll provide a tracert to add to the discussion if it means anything to anyone cos it doesnt real make much sense to me

anyone who thought that moving from Toronto to Montreal would magically improve latency is wrong. Even Russ admitted the primary driver was to save costs. I suspect they are moving from third party servers to IGP servers. This is the first step towards a MWO version of this:
https://www.mwtactics.com/

(which has been like that for 2 weeks). Honestly, IGP is just playing games by declaring extended maintenance to avoid charge backs...90 days later...closed.

If you keep saying stuff like this, maybe someday you'll be right! (even if it's 15 years later)

Yep, called Telstra support, they don't give a crap. As the tech said "routing is handled higher up, and we can't change it".

So? VPN?

@nomad, sorry if reply is super late but hopefully you can have some closure, no i have never set up anything on a VPS or even VPN
all my network settings are completely standard and match telstra's specs

but for sanity sake , here is a comparison of old vs new Tracert

Playing from Australia. Ping went up from 260-280 to 400+ for about a week.
Since yesterday ping is back to normal (270ish). I'm happy I can play this game again. :)

This is why it's been a tough problem for us, we saw improvements in some of the same areas that see worse. It seems that some ISP's were directing traffic the wrong way. I will ask for another full update on this situation tomorrow.

Sorry I didn't realize I was on page one of 16 pages for my first post, seems there has been good improvements back to normal for many. I will still check in on this tomorrow.

But I think were going to need another head count and call out from thos that still to this day see slower pings than prior.

Thanks.

Thank you for following up on this Russ. I'm an NA customer, so I'm not affected, but some of my unit mates are Australian based, and they are having problems. None of them have spiked above 280, as far as I know. I'll be sure to point them towards this thread.

No we moved from IGP servers to different ones. Many customers are experiencing better pings, many customers in Germany have dropped down from 150-170 to more like 110. We expected many would stay about the same or very close. We did not expect that anyone would drop big amounts, turns out to the ISP routing but were going to continue to try and work on that.

Question on that point Russ. There are those of us in Australia who are currently finding the game more or less unplayable since you moved the game servers which left our ISP routing to rediciously high pings. Can we expect a return of the premium time we currently have ticking seeing as this current issue is far from being in the players control?

While my ping (on J:Com in Japan) appears to have improved very slightly (from an average of about 220ms before ... I don't have enough data to make more than a guess that it's improved by maybe 10-15ms), a lot of the guys I play with (on Telstra in Australia) are reporting widely fluctuating pings as much as 100ms or more higher.

Thanks for checking in Russ ... I doubt mine will get much better, but I do feel bad for the guys who have experienced it getting worse. (Those of you complaining about anything less than 150ms ... I don't know what to tell you ... it can be much, much worse.)
