Reducing explosion effects from Auto Cannons? To be more specific, The A/C 2s and the A/C 5s.
I don't know about you guys, but in my end, every time I get shot near my face with an AC/5, the explosion effects literally blocks my view. All I see are the flames.
Sure, you could say it's a tactical move, but from a gameplay standpoint, it's just annoying.

I guess this greatly depend on you graphic options.
In very high details, any set of explosions (AC/SRM/LRM) will completely fill your screen, fade to black, and fully block your vision as the screen blur and shake for up to a few seconds.
A light mech with streaks can actually lock down an assault and force him into cover... so... yeah. *hurm*
I would like to keep the explosions, and high details, because frankly, they are gorgeous. Just... not in my face plz.
To better illustrate my point, here's a video I quickly assembled with various explosion exemples.
Observe at start how the screen is completely filled with explosions for around 12 seconds because of a single Clan Mech using Streaks on the right.
The ammo warheads that are used for the AC's are armour piercing munitions, there should be a large flash as they hit the Mech's armour, but very little explosive effect seen.
- What we see in-game is very weak compared to what should be there. (IRL)
- The 'flash' impact should be considerable, but short lived, depending on the type of surface material it contacts.
If it was closer to actual real effects, it would not be much fun for the receiving Mech. And we would see waves of complaints that it's not any fun.
The current in-game impact blast ball we see is more akin to a HE type impact, not an AP round.
(explosive compared to kinetic) ~but that's RL references to game graphics.
- Having fired both types IRL there is a significant difference on the subject target.
Could the game artists and modellers alter the effects for the different ammo munitions? Yes
- Is there some effect caused by the type of Mech armour the warheads impact? From Lore there could be additional flash effects from standard armour and less from FF armour, so this could be a reference for them to make the blast effects. ~ Or they just aren't sure what real ballistic effects look like, and it's somewhat difficult to model correctly?
For those that say it's blinding and I can't see, that's what actually taking real directed fire does. Just be thankful your not receiving the actual 'impulse' of that same fire while sitting in your chair.
Shiroi Tsuki, you have my SUPPORT... It is not any fun when someone with AutoCannon Ballistics of any kind can totally Stun-Lock someone's vision and Mech to the point where it is not pilotable and they end up automatically dead. This flaw in the MWO Game Design should never have been allowed, and needs to be fixed like 3 Years overdue. I can say I don't mind some explosions, but having it completely deny a player the ability to even play at all is something that has gone too far.
EDIT :: By the way, why is your own Vote not cast? It's not bad in any way to be voting how you feel on your own idea!

Flamers had the same problem and they fixed that ,but they can't do that for autocannons or rotary autocannons?
You'd think the user.cfg thing could fix this but nope still blinded by Racs in my face. I shouldn't have to switch to heat vision just because some lousy pilot with racs shoots at my face.

with some mechs (with ballistic mounts at cockpit height) yeah one can literally blind themselves firing those weapons, if only there was a vision mode that let you see through smoke...or muzzle flash, I think it would help...if only the two vision modes we already have were useful at all I think they would help...
