@VixNix
not to forget run off the map ;)

Personally I don't mind the self destruct option as its no different than running of the map or doing as you stated.

one is just a little shorter than the others.

I remember the old days in MW4 were EVERY mech exploded. It was honestly a nightmare to play the game correctly.

Mind you if you eject according to Lore and the BT ruleset. The mech was salvageable. Because people didn't want to lose such tech.

While in canon people did use it from time to time it was EXTREMELY rare. And considered either intentional suicide or an act of extreme desperation.

Now I do believe that an Ammo Explosion should have a chance to crit hit the engine causing the fusion reactor to loose containment.

Making it unintentional would bring things a bit closer to lore.

Now, especially in CW, if a pilot wishes to commit such suicide then I think they should NOT be allowed to respawn.

And to keep it fair your mech should do NOTHING else for 30 to 45 seconds. Seeing as you as the pilot are overriding every safety system attached to a fusion reactor. It is not a quick process.

The only main thing I have to contribute is your idea for the explosion. While I think the explosion effect needs to occur, I think it might be a better plan to make the explosion stock all round. The reason I say this is the game's current playstate.

It's difficult to brawl right now, not that it's actually difficult, but it's not a hugely rewarding playstyle, and this kind of feature might dissuade it further.

If a 'Mech would destruct with a huge explosion, that would be quite funny and also increase the immersive effect. However, i totally agree to Kilgorin - close range combat would probably completely disappear from the battlefield. And that must not happen, our brave yolo Mechwarriors may not be blewn up too fast!

Nearly everytime I read a topic like this, my mind drifts over to MW2 and NetMech. A 400M splash radius as OP said is, quite frankly, absolutely ridiculous. That's way, way too large an area.

That said, I'm for ejection and self-destruction, but with reasonable restrictions. As another poster mentioned, self-destruction should result in a C-Bill cost and imo an additional penalty, like the forfeiture of one or a few components which have to be re-purchased and added at the player's discretion.

By this, suicide missions for crippled or defenseless 'mechs are a viable tactic as they were in NetMech, but aren't a free middle-finger to an opponent just because he or she outplayed you. There are benefits and drawbacks, and the penalty should be large enough that suiciding isn't an automatic last resort for anyone about to die.

The game mechanic should include a short 3-second delay between self-destruction and the explosion. Immediately after the key is pressed, the mech goes into a power-down state exactly as if you'd pressed P (default) while the power re-routes and overloads the reactor. 3 seconds later, kablaam, damaging other mechs within "melee" distance for the full amount of the explosion, and quickly tapering off within a 60m max radius.

Here's a visual on the distance. I can only assume that OP accidentally hit an extra 0 when he first typed "400m" as the blast distance.

There would not be a huge explosion from a fusion reactor going critical, HOWEVER there WOULD be a huge thermal effect as the superheated plasma vents from the breach in the shielding.
