Adding r_HDRRendering = 0 to your User.cfg should restore IR under MSAA.

Special thanks to Legendary Moderator Egomane for providing me with their user.cfg, which I used to narrow this down.

We're going to try to get this fix integrated in-client in a future update. Right now I've got an issue with that config string breaking the renderer under TXAA on my GTX 760, so we need to look into that.
In the meantime, if anyone wants to test that config change running under TXAA with an eligible GPU, please feel free let me know the results in this thread.

Again, adding
r_HDRRendering = 0 to your User.cfg should restore IR under MSAA.

I will test with both a 980 and 680.

TXAA is broken on my GTX 780TI with the config change. See below:

However, MSAA still works with the config change but I also notice that there is actually no anti-aliasing applied either.

Okay, pre-Thanksgiving weekend update time. It's a good news/bad news kind of update.

The 'forced PostAA' bug has been squished, and if all goes well the fix should roll-out with the October 21 patch.

Unfortunately though, Silicon Life appears to be correct. The 'r_HDRRendering = 0' string does indeed appear to be removing the application of MSAA while maintaining its listing as active in the video settings. The exact reason for this hasn't yet been identified, but I'm hoping we can get IR restored to MSAA/TXAA (without any user adjustments needed, of course) in time for the October 21 patch as well. I can't guarantee that just yet.

I'm glad to hear that the PostAA was a simple one to fix.

Thanks for getting it looked at for us Alex.

Hell, I'll stick with DX9 and being able to just disable PostAA. That'd good enough for me: until there's eye candy that makes DX11 a clearly superior path, I don't much care which I use... And my system sadly lacks the horsepower to really utilize MSAA anyways.

Does this fix the ghosting? Or are we just able to disable PostAA to stop it? I don't want to use PostAA either way, but fixing the ghosting would be a good step for your average users' (those who wont know to disable postAA) visual fidelity.

If it works, we should see a decent bump in performance.

Yes, if they squash the PostAA force on, this will end the ghosting.

Even in DX9?

Even if you have PostAA on? I mean, the ghosti g isn't because of PostAA, but rather because of whatever causes PostAA to be forced on?

No, the ghosting is CAUSED by PostAA

Yeah, that's what I had figure, hence the question - I was wondering of they'd fixed the post AA bug, or just how it was stuck on.

As to my knowledge, they are fixing it being stuck on, to make PostAA not have the ghosting effect would required a re-write

They could make it so there is no ghost effect (halo) with PostAA however.

Wow... the ghosting effect (caused by postAA) has finally been acknowledged and probably fixed.
this was an issue even before DX11 (about a year now)... and it was mentioned here on the forums with the postaa being specifically reported as the cause.!
:)

Thank you lordred for spearheading this again.!

PGI, this is coming from one of your biggest fans here. You've done many good things and have tried so hard to resurrect BT (and done a fair job of it too). You've had reasons for most of your decisions so far. Please, just once, tell us why we can't photograph your beautiful Mechs! At least tell us why we can't disable PostAA at this time!
