I figured this thread had died, thanks for the additional replies everyone. I haven't played them in a few weeks because as usual I hop around because I have 60+ mechs and I never stick with one chassis long enough......one of the reasons I remain really mediocre at the game. But looking over the thread again I'll give some of these other builds a try. Im liking the idea of lots of pulse lasers, call it a Wubsome, otherwise I'm gnna have to figure out how to get good with PPCs and manage the heat of the ERs. I can't help it I still like the 8Q best though. Im also super excited for these new quirks Im kinda banking on them to salvage about two-thirds of the chassis in my garage.

I used to run LPLs on the 9M. It's good, but... not great. The problem is, you don't really have the firepower to put the fright in anyone, and AWS's are fire magnets, so it's kind of hard to just stay in the background at medium range without getting some serious attention from enemy assault mechs looking for an easy target.

In my opinion, the 9M works really well as a fast laserboat. You want an XL340 or XL350 engine, and either 3 Large Lasers + 3 Medium Lasers, or 2 Large Lasers + 4 Medium lasers. Now, the key is to play this mech like a heavy mech, not an assault mech. You can do a lot of damage over time, you have great pinpoint accuracy, but you can't take a lot of damage.

If you really want to learn how to play the AWS-9M, you should add "DarthPayne" to your friendslist. He does better with that mech than anyone I've seen, I'm sure he wouldn't mind sharing his experience and showing how it's done. He prefers 2LL+4ML, I believe.

Personally, I prefer the AWS-8Q just for the sake of nostalgia. But there's no doubt that the AWS-9M is just as good, or better. But I also don't like the running animation at high speeds, which is another reason I prefer the AWS-8Q.

I run one LPL in the arm and 5 MPLs with a STD 325 I think. Maybe AMS, don't recall. It's fun - and will be more fun in a week.
