MWO probably has regular populations in tens of thousands.

Nope.

Total population might be above 20k, but not above 30k, actual playing population at any one time is generally in the hundreds and in the single digit thousands on the weekends. Not hard to suss out really. Theres been some amateur attempts.

But I promise you every company who doesnt release their player count, has a low player count. This is SOP since the 90s. Asherons Call 2 didnt publish them, WWIIOL/Battleground Europe didnt, Warbirds didnt...Fighter Ace didnt. Small companies with small player bases dont publish their player numbers because they want to be able to set that tone should they be bought out, merged, or need to attract publishers. As well as other reasons.

Not that it matters. Its a niche game, and a niche game that has had some serious issues driving people away. Getting those players back, and really getting to the core of problems that the loyal customers who stuck it out have, is the biggest issue right now. New player experience and such, growing the player base to tens of thousands of players online, is definitely down the road...given they can repair some damage.

I gotta say this community is actually pretty good, if not very quick to turn hostile (has to do with it being a niche, and those in the niche, giving Btech/Mech cult like status...people love this like they love star wars, or bruce campbell.) but once PGI said "Were gonna do something about this" most of the people who were really toxic, immediately came back from the fringe and are trying to get the community solid and upfront about what needs to be fixed.

If you read the articles by alot of the top nominees for the player council, you can see how dedicated these guys are. If theyve been bashing PGI...its because PGI has been screwing with the IP they love.

But when you see the #savemwo stuff on reddit, and this was a pretty big cross section of the community, and it has like 500 registers...the entire community isnt very big.
