It has SHS because the Lore original has SHS.
XL Engines are not 100% Always Upgrades on anything except a Light 'mech. Many Mediums have perfectly viable Standard Engine Builds.
FF Armor? Really? Endo is far better ... But really, Again its the Lore, the original 'Mech this Hero is based on does not have those things.
More people would be upset at PGI breaking canon 'Mech (ironically, the players doing the complaining would break canon 'mechs anyways once they buy it XD) builds than people upset they have to pay to slip in upgrades after the MC purchase.
Cos, you know, it's not like we don't already have to do that when we buy regular Stock 'Mechs with c-bills.

At least with the remaining Project Phoenix 'Mechs there is only one canon custom/hero variant left that is available in the timeframe, Mary Tallman's Thunderbolt, with the Wolverine, Locust and Shadow Hawk all being options for upgraded/invented heroes.

just check sarna, those hero variants usualy are not conjured out of thin air.
Makes sense, as it is mostly BT/MW diehards that play this game. Why would anyone not familiar with this universe play it? If they actually do play this and can't figure it out for themselves, the illiterate plebians probably couldn't even comprehend what a "backstory" is anyways.

Sure, but what prevents Niko from copy-pasting that backstorty from Sarna?

BTW, i totally agree with the OP. Even a few lines of background are appreciated, it is all about the small things, quiaff?

I don't think anyone at PGI has time to "copy-paste that backstory from Sarna." All hands on deck need to available to churn out that next mech for sale...even community managers, it seems.

Seriously...why should players get fluff of any kind from the BT universe? Most of it wouldn't make sense anyways.
"Dad...why do they call them 'Double Heat Sinks' anyways?"
"Well, son...a long time ago before technology degraded to the point we're currently at, DHS used to cool at twice the rate of conventional heatsinks. Amazing, I know. That technology has been lost to time, my boy."

"Well son, because "three-times-as-large-but-only-eighty-percent-better-at-cooling-heatsink" took too long to pronounce and time was precious in the olde age. Can you just image your Betty telling you that you just lost a three-times-as-large-but-only-eighty-percent-better-at-cooling-heatsink"?

Anyway, I've tried to read some wiki posts on the BT lore but I doze of after having read 2 or 3 paragraphs.

probably to fill the tonnage since IS mechs fdon't have a targeting computer available. leaving the FF's and such normal. Also MC prices are relative to cbill prices. the hero mehc would be significantly more expensive with FF, XL and DHS.

"But Dad...don't you mean forty percent better cooling, not eighty? Wait...you're not my dad...are you???"
