I believe the real problem is the developers don't have a clue what they are doing as is evident by the lack of coherant development, apparent lack of skill in the CryEngine, and total disregard to the founders that helped them build the game in the first place.

You may feel that this is a troll post but I assure you it is not. I am a Legendary Founder, I and my friends have been with this game from the beginning, and I for one am tired of being dicked around.

Let me break it down for you, using quotes I am sure you are all familiar with. I will put them into perspective as I see them:

Quote

How does our new project affect the development of MWO?
MWO is not impacted in any negative way by P2, in fact it’s quite the opposite. By having 2 projects we are able to leverage economies of scale from the two projects. For those in accounting – fixed costs (rent, admin, utilities, etc) are now shared among a larger pool of developers, which in turn lowers development costs and allows us to add more resources. In addition we are able to leverage economies of scale with respects to centralization of similar services.

Quote

Are you sharing resources between MWO and P2?
The short answer is yes. With the addition of P2 Piranha has undergone and will continue to undergo organizational changes to support the success of both projects.

Each project will have a dedicated core development team; a group of developers that only work on one project at a time. These dev teams are supported by a central Live Operations and Marketing team responsible for keeping the game and websites running smoothly.

Um. This must be some kind of New Math, because to me it sounds an awful lot like they are pulling devs off of MWO to put on the new title, which, well, has a negative impact on MWO... Right? It sure as hell isn't a positive thing, no matter how he spins it.

Quote

Was MWO Founder’s money used to pay for development of P2?
No!!! Absolutely not! Every last cent PGI received from the Founder’s program and each consecutive program (Phoenix and Clans) went right back into development of MWO.

Quote

Where is the money for P2’s development coming from?
P2 is still very much in it’s infancy. We have funded a small prototype team for the last few months from government subsidies available here in Canada. Although Piranha has many options available to it for funding P2, each of those options comes with significant revenue sharing and more importantly impacts on our control of the product and it’s path. Our hope is that crowdfunding will support the future development.

[Translation] F yea we are using Founders money for P2, along with my mothers retirement money and whatever we can bring in from shell games! I got some ocean front property in Arizona I will let go for cheap, you interested?

Quote

Would you ever divert resources from one project to another?
We will always do whatever is best for the success of our company, which means we will do whatever it takes to build games that are engaging and entertaining for you to play. However this is never something that negatively impacts feature development of a project, see the following question and answer for more details on how this relationship works.

[Translation] We are so fracking good we can defy the laws of nature and bend space/time to suit our needs.

Because that is the only possible way his statement makes sense.

Quote

What is the timeline for remaining Community Warfare features?
Like all features in a game like MWO, I hesitate stating when ALL of a feature will be implemented because many features like Community Warfare may continue to grow and expand indefinitely. However as to the main remaining aspect of planetary combat we still plan to implement this feature late in the fall of 2014. Expect lots of communication on our progress in September.

[Translation] We haven't got a clue what we are doing, so how the hell should I know? The only thing I know for sure is we will milk it for as long as we can get away with it!

Quote

Does P2 have a publisher?
We do not have a publisher, and we are not looking for one.

[Translation] And we couldn't get one if we tried. We know because we have tried, and they ditched us.

And then you have the whole sad fact that P2 and the associated site are a really bad take on 'Stop me if you have heard this one before'. It is just another pathetic money grab, and anyone that falls for it has failed a very simple IQ test.

I am a founder as well. Although everything hasn't been as planned, or as announced from time to time, I am still pretty happy with the game we have now, as long as they get round CW and a list of other things.

Don't regret a penny I spent here.

Here here. I've dropped cash, was annoyed at some decisions, happy with others, will likely drop cash again.

OP's flinging half-witted accusations around like candy. (Also, in before this herd migrates to K-town)

Then explain how pulling developers off of MWO helps MWO? I am dying to hear a logical explanation for this one!

You realize that by criticizing the developers, you have placed your neck on the chopping block and will most likely be banned permanently.

Not that I'm disagreeing with you (or agreeing, so don't chop my head off as well), I'm just letting you know that open criticism of PGI and/or it's employees is a bannable offense.

Tell Sandpit I said "hi" when you get there, man.

Just 1 question to Thermonuclear: Are you a game developer that works for or heads up a game studio?

If the devs are so paranoid about criticism then they pretty much underline my point.

I think your translator might be broken. The Founders' money is long, long gone, and was probably off the table before P2 was on the drawing board. While there will be shared resources in the future, I'm not going to begrudge PGI diversifying a little bit.

PGI's purpose is to make games, not personally make games for you. The difference is that they have to look forward and not put all their financial eggs in one basket. People WILL get tired of MWO - it's inevitable. It'll become dated, something better will come along, players will burn out, and yes PGI will lose interest in maintaining it. So them having a backup plan for that inevitability is a smart business move on their part.

That said, MWO is their money-maker right now: they HAVE to focus on making MWO as good as possible or those "economies of scale" will not appear. So take that to heart.

1. They've hired new staff to work on P2. The resources shared are in the marketing/accounting/support departments
2. Your founders money is LONG gone. The other options are picking up various outside parties to help fund the game (publishers, investors, etc)
3. They are a business. He covered this in the twitch stream multitudinous times. They will fund this game until it is no longer viable.
4. They've hit every deadline in 2014 so far and communicated them effectively.
5. They don't want one after dealing with IGP, whom they just purchased all MWO assets from.

All of these things were covered in Russ' 3.5 hour twitch stream where he honestly answered the community's questions and gave us all the answers we wanted, good or bad. I honestly can't see how this is a post designed to do anything other than poison the community. I would rethink the wording of all of this and refocus on your intended goal, since you are not trying to troll.

If I could like the OP 100 times I would. The statements made about how the development of that blatant copy and paste space sim would have no impact on MWO is so riddled with logical faults I'm amazed people don't see it. But then again some are still certain CW will be around this time, fourth time promised and still not here yet. Right.
