I've run mine with 1ML 3SSRM2 and an XL180 the most
Had a bigger engine originally - but due to hit-reg issues I could not hit anything at those speeds, since HSR, I never really replaced it. (or really driven it often, due to it already bein 3/4 Mastery full Elites)
I use it as an escort for the big boys - using the SSRM to chase off the light mechs, and the ML for extra (if less effective) range, or for when I run out of ammo.

Also tried running it with 3LRM5 once. (didn't work so well - but that was back when ECM was new and everyone was trying it)

3SRM6 was popular when I was new - with the old stats and 1 ML that was (at the time) a 50 point alpha strike.

I tend to use a medium laser, ECM and 2 SRM 4's in the arm. Whatever you do, MAKE USE OF THE ARMS! The Commando is incredibly nimble and can track pretty much any target using those arms.

Used to run standard engine builds that would work great if the IS was denerfed instead of the Clans being nerfed. :(

I keep to streaks on them due to the weight savings and the arm-advantage over most IS light mechs.

LRMs are also handy. Sadly options are very limited.

I haven't got any recent builds that would be useful and the old builds were nerfed into useless some time ago.

There were two builds I ran over the time I was mastering the thing.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...3d91755083f155b

and

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...0a78a2eae237f4d

I found I liked the Slas version better because of the extra streak ammo but the Mlas does tend to do more when I do eventually run out of that ammo.

I've been running 3 streaks with 2 tons of ammo, a TAG, and ECM for a while now. It's alright, but it's really a support machine. Stick to an assault and protect him from knife-fighter lights and LRMs, or even just try to rock-lock anything that gets close to brawl with him. Don't go alone. Ever.

The 2D is hands-down, one of my favorite pals - together we are a leg eating monster!

I've run mine with endo, max armor, SRM4, SRM6 (2 tons of ammo) and small laser (and ECM of course) - I ran it with the 190XL out of my locust because I was cheap and had already mastered my Locusts.

if you want to run LRMS, the COM-3A works well for harassment and late-game shenanigans. I load mine with 200XL, Endo, 2 LRM5's, 2 tons of ammo, 2 small lasers and a BAP.

I regularly use small lasers on my commandos because I'm always within ankle biting range, and the beam duration/cool-down is short (and I am too cheap to pay for double heat sinks).

IS SSRM2s even in their current state are still wonderful at wreaking another light pilots day. I know well thats why when I am in my locusts or spiders and spot a streak commando I stay far far away.

well, last night, while still grinding the basics on my 2D I found a build that I'm semi-happy with..but I'm still goin gto try some of the other builds you guys have suggested..

but the match that really stood out last night was a skirmish on caustic

my team jumped out to a 4-1 lead...then it turned into a 9-7 match with my team having been scared to push with their numbers advantage earlier in the game

eventually it turned into a 10-10 brawl....my team, it was me in my Commando-2D (nearly full health) and a kit fox (missing an arm) against 2 enemy timberwolves

the kit fox was engaded with one of the twolves in the crater while I was engaged with the other Twolf (healthy, but not full health) outsde the crater

well, during my brawl (and yes, it was a full on brawl...no more than 100m separated us the whole time), the Twolf legged me first, but quickly after, I took one of his legs...however, he wasn't managing his heat very well and kept shutting down...so I was able to take his other leg before he could strip the armor off my remaining leg (or any other section of my mech)

at this time, the kit fox fell to the other twolf, so I limped into the crater to take him on. He had cherry red armor on his CT and yellow armor everywhere else. I kept punching him in the face til I ran out of SRM ammo and then still kept punching him with my ML...unfortunately, I only was able to get his CT to dark orange internals before he cored my CT (4 C-ERMLs beat 1 IS ML)

my loadout was simply 1 ML and 3 SRM-2's and was able to out-brawl one timberwolf and nearly a second

feeling better about the 2D now.....

Edit: for the proper number of SRM's

SRM2 are quite useful nowadays - at close range they are quite accurate and the DPS is nothing to joke about. You can keep the enemy constantly rocking.

yup...on my huggin with 2 SRM2's I chain fire them..its like 2 AC-5's at close range with the rate of fire...add to that 4 MGs and it packs a nice little punch....

on my KTO-19 I chain 4 of them and it is a constant stream of missiles but even there, it never seems very effective but it must suck to be on the other end.

Sniper Mando works on occasion and is fun when it does. XL to go decent fast, use BAP and Advanced Sensor Range with Advanced Target Decay for long range spotting. The BAP and Adv Sensor Mod boosts range by 50%. Think I dropped the Adv Target Decay for Adv Zoom to better snipe with the ERPPc and also see what the enemy is doing. When you have LRM's on your team you call out a target and let your team rain LRM's. Trick is to find a spot off to the side, good camo for the map, and not move till someone takes shots at you. Often I let the LRM barrage begin and then chime in with the ERPPC. It's quite fun to spot the ECM mech in a group, hit him with the ERPPC and let your team send in the LRM's. Works great till your spotted and a light brawler comes over to get you. This is all dependent on your team having some decent LRM's.

If my side doesn't really have LRM's then usually hanging back and providing ECM umbrella and chipping away with the ERPPC is what I resort to. Sometimes trying to break off from my main group when the other side starts a rush or peek a boo and see if I can get some mechs to chase me either into a trap or even merely occupy them so they aren't damaging the rest of my team.

I don't have a Smurfy link handy but just search for Sniper Mando and you should find it.

Mine.

Enfo
Ferro

XL200; 2 Double Heat Sinks

ECM

(1) MPL
(2) SSRM2
250 Rounds.

I act as ECM convoy duty, not a damage dealer in the first half the match... second half match... I run amok!

And they can bring ECM to the party.

Nice try once again E.
But there is more to life, the game, and the meta, than pure DAKKA

I have a very similar build, but I use a pulse laser instead of a regular med laser. I have the laser for one mouse button, the 2 SRM2s in the arm for the other mouse button, and my spacebar set to chainfire all 3 SRMs, great for rocking their cockpit a little, and keeping a continuous DPS.

After the SRM fix, the COM-2D became my favorite micro-brawler, very fun and surprisingly effective, way stronger than the old SSRM2 build.
