Hello I have a question. And I did a search so plz don't start. In the mech warrior books theres a faction I think called commstar? They protect the communication relays or something like that. Well the question I have are they going to be in this game and if so in what form? As players or NPc's.

In 3049 ComStar has several regiments, but not very likely as players. I don't even think I want to see them as NPCs

Little is known of the meta game at this point. I'm afraid there really is no good answer available for your question, other then something a Developer might say... Cross your fingers and hope that one of them is moved enough to answer you I guess.

Comstar, if you want the proper spelling - might help with your search. See also: "Word of Blake"

I hope they'll be NPCs only, since they're supposed to be super-secret-hush-hush about their combat strength at the moment...

Never mind that most of the Houses actually know about the secret stash of mechs Comstar has. I think the Davions have had to put up with Comstar mechs in their HPG stations though, by this point.

At this point in history ComStar still held Terra (Earth). They had their own Military arm, the ComGuards, which had ALMOST clanner level tech. They did a far better job of preserving their tech during the succession wars...

LOL nice - but unfortunately true in the BT universe - especially if you used the HPG station to communicate such suspicions... even if coded.

You'll probably be the unfortunate victim of an accident or a "wrong place, wrong time" victim of a terrorist attack - given that Myndo Waterley is in charge of comstar at the moment (and she is NOT a nice person).

I can see the devs using Comstar themselves for special events and such.

Depending on how things are going in the game at the time, having players able to choose Comstar as their faction could be part of an expansion. It could play out in both the clan invasion as well as the split between Comstar and the Word of Blake nutjobs. One of the great things about this IP is that there is just so many way they can steer the game while still keeping faith with the canon as well as the fun gameplay.

If you're REALLLY interested in it, you can still find the old BT Field Manuals on ebay and elsewhere... they make for very interesting reading.

Another source, if you're interested in Comstar, would be the Warrior Trilogy, by Michael Stackpole - it covers the Federated Suns (Davion), Kurita (Draconis Combine), the Capellan Confederation (Liao) and Comstar in various degrees, as well as the game-world Solaris. It's a series of 3 books and you can find it as an ebook if you look around.

Well worth the read, IMO...

No probs...

I'd try to avoid any books that go beyond 3049, just so you don't spoil anything - you're in a very unique place where you can be surprised by events happening in the universe - something I suspect that (if only secretly) most of us envy in a way... the less a new player knows about the clans, for example, the better right now... that makes it more fun in a year's time when they turn up. :)

I like this idea a lot. Could go along with the Inner Sphere News as a way to introduce new things or progress a storyline.

Comstar won't have anything to do with MWO for awhile, they have a monoply on communications relays across the inner sphere. They don't do much militaristicly until later.

I remember in one of the books during some reception on Terra hosted by Comstar with all the Great Houses in attendance, an agent of someone stumbled upon some underground comstar mech hanger and saw a crap ton of uber rare and well maintained loadouts. I think this said agent then was promptly dealt with.

Comstar plays such a major role in the cease fire in 3052 that I think they need to be NPCs.
