Finally got to the end of the Town Hall.

Russ was asked about Solaris Game mode and responded that we have Private matches and if they see people using that for Solaris they may look into it after CW is out.

I have to say that while Private matches are nice (only used them a couple times, but it was fun). They can't really replicate the Solaris VII environment. 1v1, yes, 16-24 mech free-for-all, no. Why? because it still forces people into teams and as soon as all the players on one team are dead the match ends, Set up a 24 mech Free-for-All and You would likely wind up with 4-6 active mechs alive when the game ends.

Make some changes so we can do a non-team free-for-all private matches and Then we can run wild for you.

While I agree with you, I can also see why it's a low priority for them.

Yep, this would be sweet. Probably going to be a while before we see it, though.

I sort of can't. Because apart from the map, which wouldn't really have to be anything special, I think it should be fairly easy to create a free for all deathmatch mode. I hate to pull the "X game had this in 1993", but... yeah.

They could restrict it to private matches though. Then they would even profit from it, while waiting to see if there's enough interest for a public queue.

Oh, I don't think the full mode should be a priority until after they meet their obligations (CW, further Clan tuning, IS mech quirks (want my quick cooling PPCs on my Awesomes) etc) but if they can easily add a free-for-all mode to the Private matches it would be a huge step and give them legit data on the demand.

If that change can't be made easily, then it should definitely wait until CW is in.

Time spent on a non monetized part of the game, for a small few, or the same effort into CW and Maps atm...which do you think make more business sense, and thus, higher priority. Judging from the conversations I am having with multiple devs, it's more than just one guy spending a half an hour to accomplish.

They just need to put one guy on Solaris maps, just one guy. They need a single new terrain set for the arena walls and stands and things, and then they can reuse any other bits and pieces from literally anywhere else for flavour. Crucially, the arenas can be small, and thus easier to both produce and play test.

Solaris, ho!

Edit: They want E-Sports. Solaris is how they get E-Sports.

If it's only accessible to guys in private matches, it's monetized.

If there's enough support to make it a public queue mode, it's not for a small few.

I feel confident that it would be fairly profitable. Some hardcore fans want it, some don't. But the casual players would like Deathmatch as much in this game as in any other shooter. I do agree it would take more than half an hour though. It certainly took them some time to do the Conquest mode. Though that may have been because of balancing tests, which wouldn't be needed for Solaris, at all.

Another way to look at a 24 mech Free for All? That's clan appropriate! The free for all at the start of a Trial of Bloodright.

But yeah, I think a 24 person free for all could be fun.

I would probably limit the FFAs to 12 man personally or at least have the option of 12 or 24. Some bigger Solaris maps that could handle anything from 4v4 to 12v12 would be cool though.

24 FFA..........the CHAOS! would just be insanity.

Call me nostalgic, but I liked the Solaris set up in MW4: Mercenaries. Jungle, factory, arena and would like to see all 3. The ability to message other pilots and form temporary (real or fake) alliances in FFA would be nice as well.

Is there anything different about private games? I've never been in one because I do not have 23 friends to invite that are all on at the same time.

if you have 2 people with active PT, then you don't need 24 players (you can even call out a single player and 1v1 if you want, Mischief and I did that lol). You can select map, and some other features. You can swap players from one team to another, etc. The only thing you can't do is have a real free-for-all as it's still locked into the 2 team scenario.

You can see the options in this vid.

DUNCAN FISHER!!!!
If only we could have some canned 'play-by-play' style commentary to be triggered by component damage / mech kills etc.

I can dream...

Do you get the same rewards? Seems like they would give nothing since you could "win trade" or otherwise manipulate the system this way.

I thought the game practically was Solaris...

Personally I'm hoping the game goes in the opposite direction. Bigger maps/matches, more viable mechs, and more tactics.

No cbills or xp in private matches. They would have to role it out as a public mode to get those.

I'm hoping it goes both ways. There is room for everyone I think.

Our merc group had some fun with our own internal 1v1 tourney. Most of the videos in the channel here:

https://www.youtube....IBoHyR8dE4ZMZHO

It takes a good bit of coordination and would be much easier, better, and fun for everyone if MWO could handle 1v1 ladders and tourneys on its own.

Anything that can't be monetized is a low priority to them.
