Installer Failed Due To Disk Partition?

I recently decided to try MWO again after a long period away, in which time I got a new Rig. My old rig was running Vista and the new is windows 8. While trying to install, the launcher would fail due to 'missing directx.dll' or something similar when I tried to install in a partition that did not contain the OS. The install eventually worked when put in the default OS partition, but I don't really want anything else in there.

Anyone know of a solution to this? the installer only looks for Direct X in the partition it installs in?

Many thanks

Update-------

I just let the initial game launcher install in my OS partition, then copied the Piranha Games folder into my Games partition. It is downloading the patch (which I'm assuming is the full games client) now into the new location.

You might need to install dx9.0c before you can play the game. If I remember correctly, those files are not included in the installer and they are no longer a part of the operating system. If you do not install it, you will probably get a missing .dll error.

@Egomane
I have repeatedly tried to download the directx9.0c from the Microsoft website, but the installer just tells me I have a newer version which means I have Dx9. Is there any way to force install as I have a feeling I don't have the correct Dx version even though the installer thinks I do.

many thanks

I'll answer that once I get back home. This might take a few hours though.

Greetings all,

Reference Dx9c,

If you have the Beta Test Server installed for MWO it's included in those files.
- Look under the main directory for the Direct X folder.

See here for there location and files included: (why didn't they do this for the Live install?)
- This is from a win7 64bit system.

Otherwise look here, and get both of these installs:
Dx9c install.
http://www.microsoft...s.aspx?id=34429
And the update for Dx9c.
http://www.microsoft...ails.aspx?id=35

You should be logged in as an administrator to eliminate any install problems.
- After you 'download' the files, (yes download and not run) you should be able to run them, Windows will tell you it has more up-to-date files, but there should be an 'ignore' or 'install anyways' selection.
(depending on what version of windows your running.)

Not sure about Win8 but there is an option at the install start for MWO to place it 'wherever' you need it to be. There are core elements that are installed to the default Hd but the program will go where you tell it to. (at least on Win7 Ultimate)
- As long as Dx9c is installed (the parts required) into the 'system' locations the MWO program will/should 'see them'.

Use the Redistribution package. This will install/reinstall the necessary modules, particularly if they have become corrupted.

@9erRed

MWO is patching as we speak, I will have to wait for that to finish before I know for sure if the game will work, However those DX9 Files you have linked the screen of are in my install folder = G:\MW;O\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online\DirectX9.0c so maybe it will work? TBC :P

If not I will try downloading the above files for 9.0c and get back to you.

many thanks

got it to launch after some re-jigging, apparently mwo doesn't like you changing the installation drive away from C: which is annoying because I don't like anything being that close to my os but hey, least it will prob boot the game a bit faster vOv

Greetings all,

Reference the game being placed on another drive besides 'C';

- If it's not an SSD drive then normally after a patch the Hd may be somewhat fragmented, always a good idea to defrag it to speed it back up. Found this with MWO and especially Star Citizen, pretty well any Patch will fragment the drive somewhat.

Just some info,

Addition:
Did you get it to work?
Were you able to install the Dx9c codex?
