This is the 3rd or 4th thread on this:

Paul clarified in the initial CW2 thread that 'mech faction' limits will be the core mech types (IS/clan)

That does nto mean that faciton (and loyalty points) will not influence the ability to purchase facitons specific mechs at increased costs. And that when/if R&R is implemented again that faction specific mech repairs may not be more expensive.

Heck they could even do cool stuff like make specific weapons factories for different weapon types be on specific planets and give you a discount on Rearm if you own those factories.

But there is no way they are going to limit mech choices more than IS/clan.

Yeah I hope so.
I had some write up done to implement R&R as well as economy and mech-tree to "unlock" non-faction mechs here:
http://mwomercs.com/...and-cw-effects/
This might be just an example, but if we had some kind of progression to unlock mechs depending on rarity in your faction, it would add something to aim for.

I got to admit, this is definitely confusing. I mean I plan on belonging to the Clan Wolf faction (or Moving to Comstar if it every becomes and official faction) but I have million of C-bill and honestly, hundreds of real dollars invested in IS mech and Pheonix mechs and was just waiting for a 50% off sale to purchase a Sparky.

Point is as a Clanner, what is my incentive to purchase any additional IS mechs at this point?

Well, a few reasons:

1. You'll still be able to use whatever 'Mech you want in Public Games (games that have no effect on CW) - these will continue to be mixed-tech drops just like they are now.
2. They plan on running CW in seasons, and you may want to switch to an IS faction in later seasons (especially important to you, if you're interested in joining up with Comstar, should that faction be included down the line).

I see what you are trying to do, and I personally would like it. But that would be really hard because folks may be very limited in the mechs they own, not to mention the fact that some mechs are simply better than others. also, clan mechs are so few right now that it would be difficult to put a tier system in place for them. It is bad enough that folks will have to bring mech classes they dont play in their drop decks. Having further limits would make things even more difficult.

A 'soft' limit system would probably be better. Something where R&R is more expensive, mech and factory purchases are at a discount (especially if you own a factory planet). That kind of thing. Give people a reason to play a specific faction or attack a specific planet.

Yea, I included R&R into the linked post. That would give a bonus to faction specific mechs even if you own all mechs already. :)
New and improved version:

With XP bar, Hero mechs and General mechs that are shared by all factions.
In theory there would be 2-3 mech chassis that have 3 variants in the General section, so you can always play, buy and level these.
The Faction mechs are also unlocked when you choose a faction and the allied faction XP would be faster than the other tiers, so you would have a pool that is about 50-60% of the total mechs available very early.

I think we'll have faction specific variants...

D for Davion, K for Kurita, S for Steiner, L for Liao, M for Marik, etc...

This doesn't quite match up all the way, but it comes close..... (there are generic variants that everyone has equally).
