I am creating a survey using Survey Monkey in order to gain a picture of people's opinions on LRMs and ECM. (Russ said it was limited to ECM, and maybe one other item that must be changed to balance with ECM. I strongly suspect that LRMs are the key here.)

Anyone have suggestions for questions in order to gain an unbiased picture?
(Is anyone willing to take it and translate it into the other related languages?)

The council can use it if/when it is created.

I strongly agree with Kiiyor that the best solution would be an in-game polling feature. Star Conflict is also the game I first saw something similar, and it was a very nice feature. It helped the player feel like the game wasn't static and that the devs care about player opinion on making changes.

Survey Monkey will get the job done if all we care about are the forum goers who are invested in the process, but to get an actual broad poll of the player base it needs to be inside the game environment.

An in-game polling feature would be fantastic. Unfortunately I think the support in this field that we will be given by PGI is extremely limited.

My hope is to get the survey up (to satisfaction) and then advertise in game, twitter, reddit, etc...

In game word of mouth can actually spread fairly well if players are indeed passionate about it one way or the other.

Just Imagine since whatever is decided here, there will still be scores of people pissed at how it is resolved if it ain't done "their way". And I would be one of those held to blame. Screw that. Don't need all the extra focus fire and TKs, no sir.

I get the feeling PGI have the same idea. Pass on the problem to others, and while that's okay for a player (who after all is here to enjoy the game) it's not okay for the company (who are supposed to doing this stuff for a job).

I'm pretty sure this isn't going to work though...

Ok Here's My Votes then

MischiefSC or Kiiyor - Statisticians
Homeless Bill or Siriothrax - Community moderators (outreachHPG mods so they already see much of what the community posts).
Aduvio, JagerXII, Deadfire, the Magigian - Comp Players
Jman5, DrunkCanuck69, Livewyr, StillRadioactive, Heffay, Zeece, Kin3ticX, Kanajashi, Sturm Wealth, Roland - Regular posters with well thought out ideas and and well written posts.

Not sure who I'd put up as Solo/Casual/Pug representative - ArmyofWon, Ezincuntroll?

I hear a lot of people talking about Koniving, Saxie & DocBach. Unfortunately I haven't read many of their posts. But from what others say they sound like the kind of people we want.

No thanks to a council. I'd rather have an ingame poll which would provide PGI with the metrics of the players opinions rather than giving it to a select few members of the community.

I wish I could nominate HHR Insanity based on his posts from closed beta and early open beta but I doubt he plays anymore.
So I chose these 5.

Aduvio
The Magician
Roland
Homeless Bill
JMan5

There are others like Deathlike, and Konivig who would be good choices but I think these 5 guys are worth listening to above all the random noise.

No and No to all of it. Especially having 1-2 elitists on the board trying to tell PGI what THEY want. No and NO! NO!

This looks like one of the more advanced threads on the subject. Wish you continued luck and just let me know If you need a poll for any of your decisions.

Russ could you please explain why ECM was not made similar to BT's GECM? It might help understand why there's a problem in the first place.

Easiest way to stop LRMageddon and stealth 'mechs are "cool"?

The idea for stealth 'mechs is cool - in fact, its part of the source material -- however, stealth armor only provides sensor stealth to the single 'Mech using it, has massive critical space requirements, and generates as much heat as a PPC when activated.

ECM can provide the same effect in MWO to an entire team if grouped tightly enough for 1.5 tons, 2 criticals and 0 heat.

My suggestions for council members:

Homeless Bill (leadership, formatting king, good communication skills, some knowledge of development(?))

Siriothrax (resident niceguy who still knows his stuff)

Jager XII or TheMagician (Competitive pilots with a good handle on gameplay, balance, "meta" and the state of competitive MWO).

Rak (Tahribator), Jman5 or Edmeister (PuG masters)

VictorMorson (Only joking)

My nominations for this council are the following:

Koniving- very much in touch with the needs of the casual and/or new player- strong tabletop history
Homeless Bill- he wants this to work so much that I feel he needs to be a part of this
Adiuvo- Level headed comp player who looks at balance in regard to lights
JaegerXII- Comp player from another team who plays heavy
StillRadioactive- knowledgeable about source material, is a "casualpetitive" player

I want a council - the notion of having the entire community try to put together a plan for balancing is utter nonsense. Heck, I'd rather a single individual just develop a system which is coherent than have thousands of people just making noise without anything being done.

If the Council/Single Person gets it wrong, so what? It isn't as though the issue can't be revisited. My real vote is just to Swing at the issue. ECM/LRMs are both currently so broken that the game would be better off with them just removed. It doesn't matter what changes are made, it's not likely to be worse than the current situation.

Speed in action is what is important here. Any action is better than none.

As I've said before, I think 5 people is far too few. And that the more people you have not only dilutes any one person's power, it encompasses a far wider slice of community views (and, while anyone might make a good representative regardless, inherent views tend to seep out at least a little).

Rather than arguing about who should be on it, it's much wiser to establish what the council actually is and should be and then work from there filling it with the appropriate people. It's useless to sweat details that are contingent on the larger picture as a whole.

Devils... please read the actual post again. (ECM dialogue thread, page 2, Bottom)

Council comes up with a plan based on community input.
Puts it forth to the community to vote.
Changes things to get as close to possible to community consensus.
Community votes on changes again.
Community vote sufficient: PGI begins their vetting process.

Republic drafting, referendum ratification.
