Several suggestions have not involved complete rewrites of core mechanics.

The point of the council is to follow Russ's suggestion/request to form one in order to better facilitate communication between PGI and the community (at least the part of the community that wants to be heard), starting with considering the balance issue(s) around ECM *and only ECM*. In a way, it is for its own sake. However, there is some future hope of better community and a better game to be found in the council's success.

It seems like it will create an additional tier between PGI and the community. I am not sure how that fasilitates communication. Besides, doesn't PGI still have it's 'secret squirrels' already? ;)

Peiper has taken up discussion on this in the past with forum posts towards PGI and I nominate him for consideration as well as the others in the hat here.

I agree with Journeyman, Peiper runs a good ship, with smarts and the know-how. He'd be a great addition to any council

Love working with Peiper, he's grounded with a background in battletech since tabletop and he's a very fair and modest leader.

Peiper deserves consideration. He has a spent a lot of time in the game as well as in participating heavily in the Steiner community. He has some good ideas on game improvements, and will listen to others.

A council voted on in these forums? considering PGI has disposed of so many people? it will be a council for the White knights by the white knights?
Sounds totally Legit..

I have worked with Peiper and done several drops. He is very smart and knowledgeable. If we were to have a vote he would definately have my vote!

I nominated Sandpit in Exile, a number of others have too. He should be on the poll, and I wouldn't call him a white knite.

You know if this all goes pear shaped, people will raise bloody hell. So no, I say lets make this more than electing friendly names and people we like. I'm nominating people who have been good with their arguments and have a critical eye. And that should be useful in advising future committees as well.

People can discuss the merits or lack of it to a council + vote of the community approach all they want.

This is however irrelevant to what's going on.

We were offered by Russ to have an elected council of players present an ideal to PGI that has at least 80% buy-in from the player base.

That's it. This is the opportunity we were presented.

So we said we wanted PGI to 'listen to our input'. They said 'give us input on this topic in this format and we'll work with you on implementing it'.

If you don't like the opportunity this presents.... then don't get involved. That simple. If you want to be involved in presenting changes to ECM, this is the format it's going to take. It's really that simple.

If you don't think this is the best way, etc. etc. then go discuss it and maybe make a poll saying you'd rather have a anarcho syndicalist commune approach or whatever floats your boat.

Which, in the end, is irrelevant to this.

This is the situation we're in. We get to elect players to take an idea to PGI that 80% of the player base (how that will be determined is still being worked out) supports.

That's not the topic we're discussing any more than there's validity to discussing if MW:O should be based on Battletech or Robotech. You can say 'MW:O would have been awesome as a Robotech: Sentinels game!' but that doesn't really have any value to the game, does it? It's already a Battletech game.

So I think we're running the nominations out at this point. We need to spend today and tomorrow making sure everyone on the list is good with being nominated. Anyone else want to help me PM everyone on the list and see how they feel about being nominated?

Oh, by the way - CW says you'll be able to select the planet you want to attack. While not every single planet in the IS is in contention, you will in fact be able to group up with your Clan, your Clan leader pick a planet, and go attack.

We'll see if that actually is part of the final CW but...

Yeah, remember that?

As to the council, please read the thread.

This is what the council is going to do -

Read and compile all the suggestions the community makes into a few condensed ideas.

Put the ideas forward to the community and debate them between each other in intelligent and concise format without 30 pages of static mixed in.

Then the community votes on them.

Whoever the community votes in they take to PGI.

That's it. They're not 'deciding' anything. Just helping clean up what the community creates and chooses. Doesn't matter what their personal opinions or such really are; they're not in a position to really work an agenda.

Peiper has good ideas and has addresses this issue in the past. He would make a good representative for this issue and the solving of the problems we as members of the community see them to be.

Bishop and I have been playing MWO since the first day of Closed Beta. He is a member of [-H-] HARD Corp on the merc side, and might have a clan character too. He is grounded in TT and is a mech artist.

He is our Warden of Canon Lore.

More people who love MWO and MechWarrior are needed in this community.

I think there are a lot of people who support many of PGI's goals for MWO. As an independent game development consultant, I have worked on several game projects and would love to support PGI's efforts here. Feedback on a dev project such as MWO is much more effective when suggestions can be made from informed, and/or those that have a gaming education or knowledge of the specific subject matter.

I do consider Bishop Steiner to be our SME on canon lore, and would immediately nominate him, some of the active admins on NA Comstar and many others mentioned in this thread. If theres any data collection or information collection needed from our unit membership or our actual company, we'd love to volunteer to help.

Just saying....this is one of the most productive threads I've ever seen in MWO. Great ideas all.

Funny that ive always found him to be the whitest of the white, a defender of PGI no mater what..funny tho, youre his friend and i gather that influences your vote.
This brings up a problem tho, as you see votes are going to be influenced by personal attitudes wich clearly means people are going to get votes from friends whether they deserve them or not.

Found this funny, Part of a post by a certain someone being nominated for council because of his leet knowledge of the game.. now consider that Russ has made comments on how they know Clan mechs are OP and they are actively nerfing them...because you know they are op..
Guess who wrote this...

Yes indeed.

I had to sit there and really examine the issue. Why do some players facing the Clans not have any particular issue with them, yet others, just absolutely get their panties puckered and cry "OP! OP!"?

Then I had an epiphany. The Majority of Clan Weapons are Damage Over Time. Given a chance to unleash their full power, they do tend to have a Higher DPS, and also a potentially higher Alpha Potential.

Mind you, good players seldom worry about DPS, but this led me to the answer.

IF[........you insist on standing out in the open, especially in big, slow mechs, and doubly especially without the benefit of ECM or massed AMS....... Clan Tech is OP.
IF........... you regularly get into staring matches with your opponent....... Clan Tech is OP.
IF........... you cannot reliably put the majority of your return fire into one section of your opponent..... especially when it's staring back at you....... Clan Tech is OP.

If you do all these things, have trouble walking and chewing gum at the same time, and regularly stare into the sun, you will indeed find Clan Tech OP.
................................................
Of course he is so knowledgeable about the game that he insisted that the Clans were not OP that it was the Bads fault, yet PGI has indeed found and told us the Clans were op and they are fixing it.
This is definately a good candidate for a council right? right?

Can enlarge said council to 7 and see at least one representation each from Europe and Asia/Oceanic.

lol. Since I already removed myself from nomination, it matters, how, exactly?

And you maybe need to reverse the thought you are using about Robin and I. I have criticized and flat out blasted, PGI plenty. But because I don't do it on the same issues you think I should, or blanket attack them for everything, I am a white knight.

Pretty laughable, but more a matter of your own bias than any actuality. But because of said bias, your opinion won't sway regardless, and really, I don't care.

Regardless, can we bring this thread back on task to the matter of those actually in contention?

Also, just a footnote.... Let's see, the Twolf, 1-2 Dwolf builds have proven OP.

But of course, since it would derail your attempt at character assassination, you overlook the dozens of posts since then about things, like the TWolf indeed being OP. And that is why viewpoint like yours are next to worthless, you cling to one moment, one item you feel supports your bias, and ignore all else.

Well guess what sparky? All your precious other posters? They've been wrong before , too. Difference is, I actually can admit it.
