Meanwhile... this distraction of a build-a-bear MWO council could have been time better used for, I don't know, issues dealing with say:
  • ECM
  • Weapons Balance
  • Map Bugs/Issues
  • Time to Kill
  • Mech Balance
  • The relationship between ECM/Narc/TAG/Artemis/Lock-on weapons/targeting info
  • Ghost heat changes or substitute
  • U.I. 2.0 Issues
  • CW
  • Challenge Issues
  • (insert issue)
but no, this council is a far more pressing issue concerning the game.

Konivig, he posts, he helps, he explains and he talks providing info.

Knoving is the only one I have seen nominated that i have read enough posts and seen enough of his ideas where i think he would be unbiased and helpful to the community as a whole.

Granted I would still have to have SOME kinda of communication with him be it directly to our Group (50 plus players) or he would have to speak to my Gal Comm and convey his ideas to us so we may vote on ones we see important and what needs addressed.

No everyone feels that everything is at the same level of terrabad obviously so some "campaigning" would need to be done.

But i would never wish this burden onto him...

You know that this COUNCIL is to address said problems more efficiently and easily? Why don't you read the posts before you troll them.

[points omitted for brevity]

but no, this council is a far more pressing issue concerning the game.

First off, this "council" is for the express and sole purpose of providing a single community proposal on how to change ECM. See Russ' request here.

Secondly, the community trying to gain a consensus on what to do with ECM takes zero time from the developers doing any of the bullets you listed.

So...the TT has outsold the MW license by millions, has never been plagued with balance issues, is world reknowned as one of the most balanced systems out there (along with Rifts and WH) and every MW game has been plagued and eventually crumbled under its inability to translate the TT, into a FP game.....

Yet no ones ever just copied over the rules verbatim....

Weird.

And when people write lengthy well thought out detailed articles...thats just a wall of text.

I mean, how are they even supposed to take your points of view seriously when you minimalize them?

They seem to be concerned with making a fun game, you want a fun game, what does their adherence to the TT have anything to do with accomplishing that?

Its not like youre providing any evidence that adhering to the TT would make the game worse :P

its like saying someone adhering to the Bible or Qaran or Torah cant make an enjoyable religious movie. Pretty sure thats ridiculous.

Relax. It is all my opinion, which I am entitled to. I don't like the idea of adhering to table top rules for this game as I don't think some of the rules sound very fun.

Just because someone is capable of writing a well thought out wall of text, does not mean that I agree with it or that it seems like a valid solution to me. Also, I think that a lot of the people I am referring to have a very strong agenda that they have ALWAYS been pushing.

It's all my opinion, man, which you will never change. Don't get your panties in a bunch.

Now that this thing has gotten past 40 pages, I'll throw in my (inconsequential) opinion:

A player advisory council is a great idea. By all accounts, the one that EVE Online has running has done a lot of good for that game. Frankly, I'm surprised that player councils aren't a major part of every large-scale multiplayer game release.

PGI's current plan of doing a limited trial run of the player advisory council by restricting it to the ECM question (something that has been plaguing this game since the system first went live) is a great idea, too, as it is generally a good plan to do a trial run before committing to something wholesale. Would you buy a car without doing a test drive? I certainly wouldn't. The same principle applies here.

As for nominations, I'll throw in for Koniving. I especially find his thoughts on an armor rework to be very compelling. SandPit Fupdup, and Heffay would be pretty decent voices to which heed should be paid, as well.

I don't mean to sound snarky or dismissive, but how would you adopt the TT rules to address travel time of shots? How would you address shot accuracy? Would you be patient enough to wait for a 10-second CD? How would pulse lasers translate? Don't you think the inability to strictly follow the TT rules on these things (in many cases because they were only meant to address turn-based action) might cause cascading balance issues which might cause some divergence from TT rules?

Don't get me wrong. I get that the TT rules weren't terribly imbalanced for a turn-based game and that there are lessons to be learned there and things which probably can be directly used verbatim, but I also understand that trying to build a real-time FPS with turn-based rules can be a bit like trying to build a real, working car with instructions from a scale model. Sometimes things don't work the same way and you find that the instructions really are specific only to the thing they describe in its specific context.

So instead of making a thread to create a discussion of a particular issue; you instead are discussing the course of action to discuss making a thread to create a discussion of a particular issue.

It's not taking away the developers time, but taking away the communities. Instead of having a discussion on those matters, it's on matters of this council.

Also, why is providing a negative response to a course of action considered a trolling comment?

Okay, I've got several names added to the google doc list. This isn't a place to vote; the vote is going to be tomorrow.

If you see anyone on the google doc without 'yes' or 'no' next to them please make sure they respond to the PM they're getting in a minute here.
