I looked around a bit, but didnt feel like really digging, but have they posted anything about what mechs/variants each faction will have? Are we looking at the faction sales as our lists or...?

Also the question of Hero Mechs and how they will fit into CW.

It's been asked and answered in a few threads - by factions in CW they are only meaning at the IS or Clan level. Not specific to say FRR specific or Steiner specific mechs.

The past faction challenge announcements do have some lists that PGI created to be tied to specific factions, but it's not entirely accurate - e.g. no Atlas for Steiner.

i thought there was talk of Faction specific battles, so i just wanted to pick those mechs so i have 4 mechs prepped the way i want. regardless of the event type. eh, it'll all filter out eventually.
