Does anyone else think this should be a role in the game? suppression of enemy ECM essentially. I roll around in a dragon NARCing and fighting enemy ECMers but theres not much support in the meta for this playstyle. Since ECM actively jams according to the lore shouldn't that mean the ECM mech itself would be detectable because it is "emitting"?

Basically the devs need to spend like 20 minutes playing a "harpoon" game and then re-approach ECM.

please do not mix TT and RL, its like trying to mix oil and water.

In Real Life, today, a ECM/jamming aircraft is detectable, but depending on the type of jamming you only get a bearing no rang or altitude. All but useless.

Actually, it is very comparable.

Jamming today (aircraft that is) causes a lot of "noise" on the radar display: static, lines, ghost images / detections etc - which confuses the radar operator into what / where the real targets really are. Of course there are ways around this - frequency hopping for example (the jammer then needs to keep up with this) and more powerful radars can "burn through" the jamming at a certain range.

However, unlike TT rules, MWO treats ECM as a "Stealth" mode. And the "noise" on the minmap display doesn't really do anything other than alert you to a nearby ECM mech. It doesn't hinder or confuse you in anyway.

*Edited for spelling.

Let's just say that Growlers today and Prowlers of previous decades could not be fully detected for targeting solutions from the source that they were jamming, I am not allowed to go into the specifics. so for our purposes in MWO it is like mixing oil and water.

1) ECM can be used to counter ECM.
2) The "role" exists in so much as your team takes advantage of your NARC and TAG, etc.
3) When an ECM mech is close to you (180m?), you get a "low signal" warning on your radar - telling you are being jammed.

Well, if you kill the ECM mech, you neutralize ECM. ;)

What you've described is a valid support role. Works against ECM, but also works to support friendly LRMs.

It's wholly legit, except for the "Dragon" part.

Dragon goes 100km/h toting a gauss rifle, 4ml, and a narc. It is actually pretty decent medicine If i don't do anything stupid.
