No don't do that. Why not just keep it running minus the MC reward. If we see a Dev and take him/her out, just award the hanging item?

Just a thought. Anyway, get some sleep Russ, it must be stupid o'clock where you are.

I had quite a bit of fun hunting for a dev, Russ. I found one on Sat, but the other team immediately TK'd the poor guy.

I think four things come together to make the minor frustration I've been hearing.

1) Short window creates fear of loss if a player doesn't find a dev
2) Limited first-come MC reward creates high stakes and more fear of loss in people's minds
3) Low devs to player ratio
4) No visible 'devs killed' number in the launcher so confirmation bias has some thinking that if they haven't seen a dev then no devs are playing

I'd be all for having the 'kill a dev' event be for an entire month with the cockpit item as the only reward. Assuming the devs wouldn't mind getting focus fired for longer of course.

This was more triple luck event. First, to drop in same game as dev. Second, dev is in opposite team. Third, well ... get a kill. I never get through first luck filter. I like challenges that require skill & devotion. Idea for this is nice, but to few devs. :)

It could have been worse. It could have been 'Hunt a Founder' weekend. B)

"Save a Dev" would be cool too. Anyone that gets a savior kill for a dev gets the goodie.

"Teamkill a Dev" wins you an automatic three day lockout.

For the record, I never saw a dev, finally gave up.

Teamkill a dev seems kinda extreme for that. I love the save a dev idea.

I have invested into this event both times I've seen it... once long ago (I figured they listened to our concerns before but...) and many more hours then I intended to play this weekend for that chance to get the "Kill a Dev" item. Both times, I didn't even see a PGI member. PGI could at least give us times they will be on! I know allot of pilots where looking for them round the clock as I was and never seen even 1! I heard 2 players out of hundreds even seen a dev and I played ALLOT! So, I made myself so sick of MWO this weekend I will have to take the rest of the week off as this just sunk it for me. Have a few hours left to try, but just no longer care! Good Job PGI! Your burning this game out for me :(. This event made me cancel plans this weekend, and to not even see a dev... Well, I know, My bad right? Well, Trust me when I say, I learn my lesson, wont happen again... Just sucks ass!

PGI: You should at least show enough respect for your player base to let them know there are so few of you that we might not even see a dev! I'm wondering how many other players didn't even SEE a dev, let alone get to target one!

If you feel this event makes you upset, let them know, here is your thread. Or BBQ me, What ever at this point! lol

So you got angry for the most worthless challenge we had til date ?

What about "Killed by dev"? That would be good too. Everybody would jump in front of dev's mech.

I'd be for it but I like a challenge. Can't speak for every Founder though, some might not like having the entire enemy team go after them every match until the event ends.

Edit: You know, if it was Save or Kill a Founder (Save = getting a savior bonus off a Founder's mech) with say a target of 5 save/kills for a weekend that'd be pretty great. You wouldn't only have the negative of people hunting you, you'd feel special because your team would want to save your bacon from the fire.

The kill a Dev weekend is just fine. Sure it can be frustrating for people that do not drop against a dev, but it's not a big deal. For the most part I think people are chagrined that they can randomly dop with a dev in their matches during a regular week but when they can get free loot for it they have the bad luck of never finding one.

What people have to realize that if the devs are playing the game enough to ensure a good chance for a large number of players to drop against them, they are not working on the game. They cannot just drop every thing and binge play MWO. Frankly a Dev Hunt weekend is happening on their day off. A small number of people have to take the time, a few hours in a day, to fairly contribute. And to top it off they could be doing things with friends and family.

PGI could do a dev hunt quarterly or every six months. Just set aside a day for the staff to hang out in the office order pizza and play the game. Or at least do a dev hunt right after major content is released, and their are no hot fixes needed.

I would like to suggest putting the name of the dev on the medallion given to the player.

Edit:
As I wrote this Paul is/was grinding out match's late at night so the EU and pacific guys could have a dev to drop against. He is/was streaming on twitch.

You know, I can image people getting upset with the ghost heat system or JJ being bad. But if you get angry because you "had" to take the weekend off and now "have" to take the entire week off because you cannot handle the disappointment for not seeing, let alone shooting, a DEV in MWO, you need serious help with your gaming addiction.

The DEV event is a nice easter egg and I think it's fun.

Can you guys put in some AI Devs BOTS round the clock during these events ?
Pretty sure skill wise there won't be much difference 90% of the time. :P

No Russ, They are fun and allow players to see you guys are enjoying the game too. Well, we HOPE you're enjoying it too. That said, I've had to opt out of this challenge because of time constraints and well the one time I did see a crew on from NGNG with PGI... desync crashed 3 of us on my team and we got roflstomped 12-0. Made for a very angry team when stuff like that happens. Yes I know it wasn't your fault (it was the evil server gremlins). I'm just sayin'.

So yes, these are nice from time to time.

Hi Russ, as you have said multiple times during the Town Hall Meeting, which was great btw: There's no pleasing everyone.

I totally understand that you guys can't gift a mechbay every weekend, and i'd rather have such filler events than none at all. I for one have seen Paul twice during the Weekend, and i only played about 14 matched. Unfortunately i haven't been able to destroy his mech (kill him sounds so harsh ^^) but was fun anyway. If these types of events are used as fillers every now and then, then i might be luckier next time. Looking forward to the clan pack announcement today (or is it?).

It's not the challenge that is bothersome, it's the rarity of the devs. Sometimes people will be playing for 4 or more hours and not a single dev would appear. I don't know if this has something do to with the ELO or the types of queues.

Oh my word. Seriously? PGI throws their devs (who probably don't want to play this game after spending what amounts to be the majority of their waking hours working on the game) at the players with the incentive of "hey you get a cool little thingy if you kill one" and you are angry or frustrated?

Ok folks I am no white knight here... I have my gripes... but this? Seriously?

What, do you believe that they owe this to you or something? How many devs are there versus how many players? Only PGI can tell you that... but I would imagine the chance to see a dev in-game is pretty low -- which makes the idea of killing all that more prestigious and not everyone gets a chance to do that.

Dear OP -- I realize you probably have an expectation of everything being handed to you on a platter, that much is clear. That said... if anything, enjoy your taste of the real world via the gaming world and get ready for a lifetime of disappointment.

Russ - Folks like this are NOT the reason to make this game. The "Veruca Salt I want it now" attitude is troublesome but don't let these types of folks ruin small weekend events like this.

Thousands of players on at a time, numerous matches going on at one. Slim odds to find a dev. Didn't see one all weekend. Fine by me.

It gave something for the community to talk about/ comment about. Had a decent prize that could be won in one game if one was lucky, no hours of grinding out matches or anything. And for the winners, it gives them an item that is limited and worthy of bragging rights.

Please, keep the Kill a Dev event in your bag of tricks.

I'll toss in another vote for keep these coming, I didn't get my dev kill, I want another shot at it (and all of you :P )
But maybe have a thread that you guys say "ok I'm dropping from now until 5:30 in solo, come and get me"
There was a lot of hesitation over which queue to try to find you guys in. As well as "are there even any on right now?"
