If you are not allowed to edit MWO files that sounds like you have an issue with file permissions, talk to whomever owns the computer. And if that's you, well, you screwed up your own settings, and you need to fix that, find a dedicated tech support forum.

If you don't have a cfg file, you can make one. Just make it in notepad, select "Save as" and name it "user.cfg"

install notepad++ http://notepad-plus-plus.org/
use that to create a new file on your desktop called user.cfg with the line for FOV in it
save the file
drag it into your main MWO directory "C:\Program Files (x86)\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online\"

don´t forget to "save as"---> "all files" ---> name it user.cfg... if you save it as a txt or similar document, it won´t work

ooh, btw... didnt PGI promise us a slider for that in the options menu, like 1 year ago? ;)

You are not "allowed".

Windows 7/8 with User Access Control on means that you will have to open Notepad "As an Admin" if you want to edit a file. If you don't know how to do that, you shouldn't be editing files.

Note that a User.cfg file is not longer included in the installation, you would need to make a new one or have someone send you one. Double-note that if you make one yourself that is it actually a User.cfg and not User.cfg.txt pretending to be a User.cfg

If you don't have it figured out by the time I 1)get home from work and 2)nap after working this 12-hour night shift, I'll put my User.cfg file online in a google drive or something and you can download it and save it to the appropriate directory.

i have a similar problem!
my user.cfg with the fov settings has been around since closed beta... but i recognized that my fov settings had like a reset and the value in the cfg isn´t used.

now there´s this:
when i die, all mechs i´m spectating have the higher fov setting as used in the user.cfg....but that won´t apply to my own ride
very strange

Maybe the FOV setting is broken while in your own cockpit, but getting used properly in spectator mode only?
