Any Hero (Arrow, DS, etc) due to the broken economy and C-Bill nerfs. I never leave home without my 30% buff.

Nor will I ever buy another with real cash, since they would not allow me to swap a clan a-la-carte purchase...but that is another topic exit ramp I will not go into.

I'm surprised at how the Thunderbolt turned out to be a good 'mech because of its hardpoints. I got one for free and since I had 125 million cbills at the time, I got two more to master them and found them to be good all-around workhorses. Of course, my Jagermechs are still just as good, but for different weapons.

Looks like I'm sold too! Will give it a shot. That head\cockpit looks mighty exposed mind.

Granted. the cockpit does look mighty fragile, But I honestly can not remember ever being put down from a head shot in my Griffin's. The challenge for me was finding a good compromise between speed and firepower while using a standard engine.

It's worth noting that I also enjoyed piloting my Centurians and Hunchbacks. I am currently struggling with Vindicator's, cool looking, very responsive.....but difficult to find a balance between speed and firepower. I am horrible in lights and it feels a lot like that.

Best of luck to you!

My Firebrand, best purchase I've made so far in MWO. TONS of viable builds available for it. After killing Paul in my Jester, it's coming in at a close second.

My #1 favorite mech is the Mad Dog. Not in the game yet so I can only speculate what kind of quirks and hitboxes it will have.
It's my favorite design in all of Battletech. It's loadouts in general are pretty solid. And what I like in a mech hardpoint-wise is that it does 1 of 3 things:
#1 Missile + Laser combination. (Prime and later Mad Dog Chassis)
#2 Pure Ballistics (preferably single hit, like a gauss. Hello C config)
#3 A balance of Energy and Ballistics because they compliment each other well. (A config somewhat does this with it's supportive long range weapons. Though it still has 6 SRM 6s, so this doesn't really apply to the Mad Dog. I'm not a fan of mixing Missile and ballistics together generally)

I also love mechs that put missiles in their torsos, since I'm either using LRMs (which I can use my Arms to lock on), or SRMs (which is close range, and the torso twist of most mechs is good enough to keep up with lights), so I don't really need the super fast/accurate arm weapons for them. I like ballistics/energy weapons in the arms for better accuracy. Also, I like symmetry in my mechs (sadly B config messes this up unlike just about every other Mad Dog config).
It has a cockpit literally on the top of the mech, and after playing with the Blackjack a bit, I love having the ability to peek over a hill without being noticed (though unless I'm using LRMs, I probably wont be able to fire unless I walk up a bit more).
I also like to pilot mechs that run a bit hot (Yes, I love the Nova and some other heat intensive mechs), because it makes me feel like a good pilot when I have proper heat management (I always love seeing enemy players shut down), and because I don't have to worry about ammo.

The Mad Dog's Prime loadout is what made me fall in love with missiles in the first place, because of Mechwarrior 2. Though sadly I was a kid so I didn't know how to ammo at the time (and asking anyone else they were clueless), so I didn't end up using the Mad Dog that much because it was annoying to run out of ammo all the time. I will probably have fun using LRMs to soften people up and then finish them off with lasers in MWO.

The only thing I hate about the Mad Dog, is that it lacks jumpjets. But hey, that's what the catapult is for. I don't even care if it'll probably be mostly inferior to the Timber Wolf. At least the Mad Dog can pack 6 SRM 6s (and 5 medium lasers in the arms if we get the B config), and I love to use a splatapult.

As for my favorite mech currently in game (Good job at the re-design Alex, made it into my top 10 battetech designs, that's rediculously hard to do, I'm impressed), it's the Catapult A1. Missiles are my favorite weapons in all mechwarrior games so far (though, their unreliability compared to direct fire weapons is discouraging, I still use it). I've run 2 LRMs 2 SRMs a few times to have missiles for all ranges.
However, most of my favorite memories are when I used the Splatcat (Dunno about you, but i'm going to start calling it Splatapult so it doesn't get confused with Cataphract or Mad Cat). It's jumpjets help a lot with getting into postion/escaping.
While I question it's usability against smart players, it's just fun to run up behind someone and 1-2 shot people (and if its and Atlas, guarunteed to make them a stick after 2 shots, happens everytime), but even from the front you can kill and Atlas in 3-5 shots (depending on your range and whether you have Artemis). I just love going around corners and going "SURPRISE!" and then give them a big ol' "hug". :P With the SRM hitreg working, the Splatapult seems to work just as well as well as it did in closed beta.

Catapult C1 gets a mention here because it's my favorite LRM boat. It can use 3 medium lasers for self defense, a TAG laser to help yourself and others to LRM people, and it's a heavy so it has plenty of LRMs to give to everyone. It's also fun to lure people back into your group as well because they just see you just around the corner and they want to finish you off because you're using LRMs.

Dragons are my 3rd favorite because they are the hardest mech I've ever piloted in MWO (aside from a few stock loadouts on some mechs because I was curious how bad they were). I also love their design in MWO. It helped me be a better direct fire pilot after I finished mastering the Catapult (at least unless I started using the Cataphract 4x before Banshees and Dire Wolves in the game, 3 ac/5 + large laser or 4 ac/5 was the dumbest + easiest thing I've ever piloted so far. Never had a single match where I didn't get at least 2 kills with 500 damage even when I was being a total herp-a-derp)

I haven't played them yet, but I have a feeling I will love the Stormcrow D and Griffin 3M because they are basically like the Splatdog and Splatapult in medium form. Personally I'm not a fan of the Stormcrow (but I like seeing other people use them), it still looks good but it's not a "OMG MUST HAVE" mech, so I will probably just like it for the gameplay. Griffin 3M looks rather nice, unfortunately it has all of it's weapons in one torso, and I dislike mechs that do that (though since it's SRMs, and will be using an XL, that's not too bad)

Atlas D-DC is another Mech I love a lot, because the ECM makes your team swarm around you making there be a deathball, and Assaults are better off when they have allies supporting them. It just made me remember THE REAL SUPER POWER OF TEAMWORK! *shot*

I like for example following mechs:

LCT-3M, KFX-Prime, SDR-5D, JR7-D(S), CDA-3M, BJ-1, CN9-D, HBK-4H, NVA-Prime, GRF-3M, KTO-18, SHD-2D, DRG-5N, CPLT-K2, JM6-S, TDR-5S(P), CTF-3D, AWS-9M, BLR-1G(P), STK-M, HNG-733C, AS7-D-DC, DWF-Prime.

Thing I love about those mechs is they are big stompy robots which shoots light balls, missiles, light sticks and warying sizes of Nokia 6110's.

1 word; Stalker.

More than one word; this mech can boat missiles, lasers, used to boat PPC or you can mix and match for pretty much anything.

Its a beast that can play with clanners in therm of alpha damage and is pretty versatile. High arms weapon location for above the hill " head out sniping" and this is is tougher than the average assault mech.

For me the Stalker is the definition of the assault mech, the only major downside is its damn walking animation... Walk around like a constipated pigeon...

Despite my gripes about Hunchbacks, the 4P is quickly becoming one of my favorites for, reasons....

Right now, far and away my Jester.

The Timberwolf is nice, and the Stalkers will always have a place in my mechbay. But the Catapult C1 was my first mech, the A1 was my highest dmg mark ever, and the K2 was my only #1 finish in a category of a tournament (Heavies vs World, Catapult division) and the Jester is far and away my favourite mech carrying me to top 5 finishes in categories of 3 tournaments.

I love the Dual AMS humming along when missiles are shot at me. I love having JJ's to get into good positions. I love the high mounted arm weapons and tightly grouped CT weapons. I like that it is XL safe. I like the window-space, cockpit design, I like the extra speed (max 355 engine), she's a heavy that can behave like a medium. Being a Catapult, not many people treat you as a real threat like an Atlas or Timberwolf (until they see my 700-1000+ damage at the end). I'm a big fan of energy weapons. The Jester is not particularly popular so I always feel special playing the only one in a match.

Even the little story of the Jester's background suits my playstyle to a T. People who play with me often know full well I tend to play tip-of-the-spear, running into places I really shouldn't be, but somehow manage a couple kills despite the crazy play.

Yup, there's good reason my Jester has over 2.6 million mech XP on her. A mighty fine mech. But don't play one. Don't ever play one. That's MY mech. :D

The Flea...because it has great gas mileage and access to carpool/HOV lanes.

Right now, Hellslinger. I don't get more Kills, nor do I survive much better, But I see a marked improvement in Assists and wins. And the Motif is just awesome! And that is enough for me.

The AS7-D because the DDC Is too main stream. I love the Atlas because it feels powerful and bad ass. You get a kick when another mech runs into you bumps , stops and looks up at you and starts too back away. That is the OH **** moment.

So I just finished off Mastering the Shadowhawk!

After sitting back feeling pretty smug for a few moments ('Cause you know it's not like EVERYONE and their dog has done it or anything >.> ) I realised I wasn't really sure what I should level next. So I want to ask you guys what you're favorite 'Mech is, why you love it and why you think I should do it next.

Assume I have nothing else unlocked, and money is no issue at the moment. At the very least it makes interesting conversation! :D

Probably my GRF-1N "il fianchetto". It has been parked a little while though, as I have been learning the Vindicators, which I am growing fond of.

In game? KitFox with 3xCERML, CUAC5, TC1 and ECM; Picked it up after mastering shadowhawks and had really great success keeping to a lot of the same flank/support play style.

Outside of MWO? The Hellbringer.

my dad introduced me to battletech when i was little, and he would try to teach it to me all the time. on my 7th birthday, he gave me one of his most prized miniatures, a white timberwolf with red claw marks, and the shark mouth grin from an old A-10 model. i learned later that it was known as the ghost bears silverroot keshik. a month later, my dad was killed on the job during a routine traffic stop. the miniature stays back home in minnesota, sitting in a display case, but it holds alot of meaning to me. he always loaded it up as the TBR-A variant, which is how i run my timberwolf in game.

i was saddened to see that there were no options to recreate the bloodied claw marks, but i will forever carry on his memory as the white wolf.
