I PUG that is all

Since the new nerf on clan erml, I have been trying to love the nova but have bashed it over and over again. i am mainly a heavy/assault driver. I have had success in trebuchets but have had to really change tactics with the nova.

The Nova cannot brawl....There might be those who say "yeah but I..." I'll say it again...the nova....cannot...brawl.

So I have a couple of builds for you all to try if you are having problems like me

-S (4 weapons groups) I did forget the ams in the build, my bad
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...19c52fca2b2e2e3

-B (hafta get S variant right arm) (carry uac5 if ya like)
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...f50c300ec1abc7a

Prime (group ml in each arm 3 a piece and alpha all 6 sml)
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...617f840ee50dd36

I like the clan mg, just not on novas. The whole idea behind these builds is alpha and move or to engage at range. i have been having way better match score, survivability, and c-bill grind than with carrying mgs that as soon as I close with any mech i am toast so I ask....why carry mgs....why tempt myself. Stay with a pack, escort the assaults and shoot and scoot

I see the dps or heat efficiency may be sub par but the uncover/alpha technigue has worked well for me.

The one good thing about the nova being a laser boat is that it allows for mutiple weapons groups for chain or group firing of weapons. take the S for example, wpg1: group fire LL, wpg2; group fire ml, wpg3: chain fire ml, wg4: chain fire LL. Manages heat very well with this setup

only pod swap was on the B. S and Prime are stock pod. otherwise, uac10 and 3erml on a B?

I too tend to stay with the pack with my Nova so far. Usually the only reason I leave the pack is to get a better angle for LRMs, and since the Nova can't carry them, there's no reason to leave the pack. I only have the stock config so far for the Nova with 6 MPL+4 MG, and I added the AMS omnipod for the RT. So mine has 2 AMS, 6 MPL, 2 MG. Adds another reason for me to stay with my team: LRM defense.

Yes, the MPL are for brawling. Eventually I will be swapping out some equipment for ERLL. I'm thinking 2 ERLL, 4 ERML. The one thing I can say about the MPL are that they are very heat efficient, and pack a nice punch. Makes for nice backup of team mates in Atlases. Those MPL allow you to break cover, do max damage, and retreat much more quickly. Also, I find myself not using the MG much really, so they may end up being swapped out for extra heat sinks sometime soon.

you can still easily do 6ML + 6SL, you just have to have trigger discipline and know what to get out of dodge to cool down.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...7ed29678db8b288

12SL still works also if you get them in 4 groups of 3 and don't fire them all at once.

12 SL also work in 2x6. they are quite cool at all.

I've had decent results with this:
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...54872dafc942cb9

Alpha's 53 points without exploding and run's 'cool enough' for my tastes when firing the CERMLs in groups of three.

Well I did really well with 6 medium pulses and 4 MGs.......to the tune of a 2.00 k/d ratio in 43 matches. All my other Nova builds have k/d ratios of like 0.6 lol so there must be something about that build that works for me. I agree with you OP, the Nova CANT brawl, I am having a hard time with them, they look so cool but man......too slow for my taste and it cant tank for ****. Like some people are like "well its a great cleanup mech" pffttt EVERY mech is a good cleanup mech.

Over time I have some hope for two additional builds: 4 MGs, a UAC/5 in right arm, 4 medium lasers in left arm (used to be 5 before the nerfs, could still try it but its gonna be hot).

Now that they unnerfed the clan ER LL a bit a Nova-b with 2 MGs, 3 ER LL and a targeting computer mk 1. Now THAT is a Nova build designed for not getting in trouble.

Yeah, but compare a stock Stormcrow to a fully mastered Nova. The Nova turn rate, twist rate, and speed are all way sub-par for a medium mech. Jumping into a Stormcrow after using a Nova will just shock you at how much quicker and more agile the Stormcrow is. Much more durable too. The Stormcrow is what a medium mech should be. The Nova simply is not. Sure, you can make it work. A good pilot could make a walking brick with one small laser work sometimes. The point is, why fight with lead weights tied around your ankles? That's what the Nova feels like to me.

Until PGI fixes it, the Nova is a hangar queen for me.

This. I started to use the SC a bit more now because I want to max it too, and its like WOAH wtf, its fast it turns like crazy and pops so much better. AND its unskilled at this moment, WTF??? With full skills this thing will be beast. And I didn't even tried hard or such a thing. And thats what makes me kinda sad. Clanmechs are so imbalanced amongst each other that is kinda not funny. And then we get clannerf across the board while the issues lie in 3 clearly superior mechs: DW, TW, SC. And with the new coming clanmechs, we will see.

and with the Fenris coming, you can bury the Nova totally, Fenris is way more agile, has great hitboxes and Energy/ballistic points you can make a good use of. 3 CERML 2 SRM 6 or an lbx in the arm instead of a srm6. And you are fast as (hell skilled this thing is 142kph fast).

hm, i could try that... i´currently running 4ERML + 1 LPL... before that i used 1 uac10 + a couple smalls, but that´s way better in the kitfox :)

true that...the Fenris and the Hellbringer will cause some tears for their opponents... the Fenris will totally own it´s (more or less) counterpart, the cicada... it´ll be a devastating lighthunter and also a very good medium scout (paired with an ECM Mist Lynx? nice couple i guess) ... at least that´s my guess from what you can see by the pure numbers...

Russ promised no more clan weapon nerfs in the near future... he said nothing about nerfing the mechs themselves. And the 3 main offenders desperately need the bat.

PS. I've just seen a TW survive a round at 8% health. And somehow he had one LPL left. These things are more durable then Werewhales :-)

Well not entirely sure a XL circada at 150 kph with lasers will still be good. but they both will be really competitive to each other. CDA may even have the better hitboxes over the fenris. and better hardpoints.

yeah TW is more twist friendly and you can put a laser in each Sidetorso and one laser in the head, so he will msotlikely stay armed till the bitter end. And I guess said TW was the typical laser vomit wolf with 5 CERML and 2 CLPL. Horrible efficient loadout when you think how easy and hardly skill requiring this laodout is. L(P)L should also go into the same ghostheat category.

I hope Russ keeps that promise. It really is time to balance mechs and not weapons. And this does not only count for Clanners.

1x ERPPC in RT. 1x ERPPC in RA.

Shield with left side. Pop from right side of cover and jumpsnipe.

It works. Its fun.

and requires a nova why? This is what nearly any other medium can do as well and even some lights. Why would you use a Nova for this with its giant sized Model?

Nova is pretty big for being so slow and fragile. It suffers from "Quickdraw Syndrome".

It doesn't require the Nova. It just happens to be a fun way to play the Nova which was what the thread is about....

So yeah.

The Nova is my first Clan mech. Didn't want the KitFox and saving the rest of my c-bills for the Timberwolf when it's available.

Still grinding them. They are decently fun compared to the IS mediums. I jumpsnipe with the CERPPCx2 loadout, and hit and run with the 3x3 CERML loadout. They're pretty fragile, so I try not lead the charge. It's almost like a Blackjack.

Why not the Stormcrow? Because I can't buy it with c-bills yet.

A comparison of pretty much any other Mech to the Stormcrow seems kind of silly to me. It's in another league.

I found my 12 small laser Nova build simple enough to use. Frankly it was so effective that I just assumed that Clan ERSLs was what they recently adjusted. Granted, you can't march in like an Assault or run away like a Light, but that's perfectly fair.

edit: And that was before they made weapon mods good!

2nd edit: The Stormcrow, I feel the need to add that it, as well as the Twolf are in another league, when you're talking about average players and newer (like myself). They are amazing Mechs for us. I have no experience with the higher end group play, as I expect anyone coming to this forum would be in that same boat, and things would be very different at the upper tiers.

theres no reason to run max small lasers on a nova...ever...not anymore

er sml...4 damage, 3 heat, 200 range, .5 tons

er med...7 damage, 6 heat, 400 range, 1 ton
2x er sml...8 damage, 6 heat+ modifier, 200 range, 1 ton

ur always better off running 6x med lasers than 12x sml

run less heat sinks, throw on 2x ams, maybe an ac or 4x mg. dont get psycho with the smalls

I just mastered my Stormcrow this weekend due to the 2xXP and yes, good god this thing is fast and agile for 55 tons.

I still prefer the Nova though and wish I had mastered it first. It just feels like it packs so much more of a punch even with the damn heat nerfs that make us have to watch it with the stock Prime 'mech. I love the 42pt "arm" alpha....if you get behind someone its over.
