Faction warfare is IS vs Clan so the win rate should be equal. The Clans have better tech, yes, as it should be. But the win rate is another matter.

The win rate is due to higher ELOs on clan side...all told, given the ELO delta, I would consider this to be an indication that they are basically balanced at this point...

You must also consider, most of the clan pack purchasers, from what I have gathered, are part of units, and typically play more than your casual pugs.

Also, consider that this test was not conducted during NA prime time either...

This is so frustrating
Russ
Please turn this on and leave it on
The only place mixed tech belongs is private matches

Mixed tech is killing the spirit of the game
And its only going to get worse after wave 2

Ecm raven/spiders/atlas make timberwolfs and direwolfs so much more powerful than they should be
But its not just ecm at work here, IS units have different design principles to clan and when you can have 100% the best of both worlds it makes the land unbearably min max, LRM80+ timberwolfs guarded by Ac40 jagger mechs is more painful than anything seen in this game

90% of my unit has stopped playing because of mixed tech

Given the ELO delta?

So your theory is somehow magically you know what the data that PGI is actually looking at says. Conveniently this magical knowledge happens to perfectly illustrate what your bias wants so badly to be true:
The mechs you bought are if anything nerfed a little too much, it all comes down to player skill. Every win you earned by being better.

Give me a break.

No comment on mixed tech but i'd like a pure IS vs IS option for matchmaking. And Clan Vs Clan. Clan vs IS is OK for community warfare, though there should be IS vs IS and Clan VS Clan fights too...

Who would have guessed it, another test with the same bad matchmaking. The clan teams are always going to out weight the inner sphere teams by 50 to 100 tons. All the clan mechs people are playing are at the top of their weight class against a mixed bag of inner sphere.

That is the problem with looking at only win rate. Release all of the statistics, you must have average drop weight for both sides for the recorded matches.

Okay I think I am going to bring the test down early at 6pm, we did manage to get some good test data - basically enough.

A few were upset about the test I guess railroading their night with matches that are unfair. A misjudgetment on my part I suppose, I thought everyone would love it. Perhaps most did.

Anyhow going to edit the original post and have the guys bring it down in 20 minutes.

I enjoyed it. It seemed to bring out the best from the IS guys I dropped with, they all really got into it. Just don't forget the silent content majority :D

Maybe I'm in some ELO bucket with awesome people in it.

Some people are jumping into IS mechs and throwing matches. Just so you guys are aware.

I saw one fellow, who shall remain nameless due to Name And Shame policies, constantly crying "We've lost, die fast", "it's over, get out of the match" and other such things - then killing himself/getting himself killed quickly in every match we faced Clan mechs.

Several others repeatedly doing much the same.

With that said, I'm absolutely up for IS mechs getting some buffy quirks. They'd really help spice things up! So, I'm quite happy with Russ' response.

I would like the raw data from matches (All matches) made available. I think the community has people in it that will anaylze it and help explain what and why things happen. As for my self, I'd like to explore the link between Inner Sphere XL engines and win/loss ratios.

I'm wondering if the relative squishiness of IS XL engines is contributing to early losses which cascade into a steamrolled match. Or alternativly, the relative robustness of Clan mechs being able to keep fighting causing the same results. Based on the comments by the dev, I think they're thinking the same thing. On the other hand, depending on the penalties from side torso destruction on clan XL engines I don't think this will be the final answer.

(Incidentally, I would like to see the side torso adjustment as part of a more comprehensive critical hit of structural components inclusion into the game. Loss of actuators, engines, gyro's, sensors etc having an impact on the game. (A small one considering that a mech which starts experiencing those problems is usually dead a few seconds later from raw damage. Maybe if floating TAC's are added in...)

One thing I would like to test is if it's the guns or the chassis which is skewing results. I think it would be entertaining and educational to revamp the test server so that IS mechs have clan weapons, and Clan mechs get Inner Sphere weapons for a weekend. Keep the IS vs Clan Matchmaker for that test.

50/50 can't be the goal. Right now all the noobs are going to be in IS mechs because its doubtful they've thrown out the cash for Clan mechs.

Not so sure about that. A lot of long time Battletech/Mechwarrior players grew up on the Inner Sphere side and are likely to stay that way, those who bought into the Overlord and Saber packages along with Clan packages. Got whales on both sides of that fence.

@Russ It was not a hassle, who cares if a little of our day involves involuntary testing and info gathering? It might be our community but it's your game. if you want to test it ....test it. I am happy that we were allowed the information and that it was not a silent test. (I recommend a silent test in the future because of all the people that are entitled. And I preface saying that as a legendary founder that has every top level expansion...we arnt all pewpew)

Was disappointed when I started going from IS v. Clan to mixed matches again. Do this again whenever. Nice surprise and rush for the first few matches to be battling the clan invasion.... even if we were outgunned. Still was great fun while it lasted.

Perhaps instead of going for pure IS vs Clan matches for a period of time, Randomize the test matches. 10-20% of the time your regularly scheduled randomized match will be replaced by a match done in the name of science.

Or give the option to Opt into testing matches if you want to praticipate more exclusivly in the test matches.

Or an extra game mode for clan vs IS matches.

Report them?

And yes, IS mechs are getting quirks. Let's see if that means mechs like the Victor getting unnerfed. :)

I remeber the stomping of the last "test." The moment members of my unit came on we grouped up to avoid this b.s. Bad enough we had nothing but novice or noob is pilots in solo que before this test. If I wasn't in a unit that is fun to play with I'd have quit this game months ago out of frustration and bordom.

There was DEFINITELY something about the IS pilots tonight. I think this little bit of science brought a lot of "A" game from them. The win still tipping to clans at nearly 3 to 1 tells me there's a little ways to go, balance-wise, but we're getting there. I only pee my pants a little when I see the front of a Direwolf or Timberwolf.

Of the matches we won in IS mechs, we had to draw the clanners close, then spring an ambush. When things are in knife fighting range, IS vs Clan can go either way.

That said, if they have 3 Timbers and 3 Scarecrows, it's probably ggclosenore. I didn't get in enough matches to see that scary combination firsthand.

I loved this event, even though it was cut short, My atlas and jagger ripped up some clan mechs.

Here is the basic data collected from a sample of 268 IS vs Clan matches.

Clan win rate of 73%

This is a reduction from 90%

So actually I am pretty happy with seeing this change. Now we follow through on IS quirks and the Clan RT/LT changes.

Question on the engines.

Am I somewhat correct to say that Engines right now have a HP of 15, control the speed of the mech as well as its base 2.0DHS dissipation rate/heat cap due to the size of the engine, 10 DHS or less?

And that there are not actual engine crits that changes dissipation rate/heat cap?

And that IS XL engines 3 components in the left/right torso being destroyed is not what kills the mech but simply losing a side torso + IS XL engine = death?

And Clan mechs, due to having XL engines, are setup so that if RT+LT are destroyed = dead mech. Then any changes to Clan mechs will be simply based on the destruction of a side torso due to the logic coding?

Just a suggestion - make something like this opt-in only for players or give them some notification. It got pretty damn irritating playing IS mechs this afternoon, and without ANY notice I got so damn frustrated at how bad things were going I was tempted to uninstall it again. Pulling stunts like this will seriously piss off those who are slowly starting to come around and have NOT bought any Clan mechs yet. Seems a bit counter-intuitive to winning back a player-base to me.

If I'd have known this was going on I wouldn't have started the game at all this afternoon and played something else with my minimal free time, testing be damned. When I play I'd like to have a decent chance at winning, not an averaged 73% fail rate.
