Is this right .....?
The Gargoyle, an 80 tonne assault battlemech that does over 80 kph ..?
The same as an IS medium battlemech ... ?

So it has longer range, lots of hard points ... and it can now keep up with a medium ...

What are the IS going to get to be able to stand against this ?

What are the IS going to use? Something with enough guns for its weight? The Gargoyle will have very limited pod space.

If this was really an amazing thing, you'd see XL400 Dragon Slayers all the time.

That thing isn't anywhere near as fast as any of my mediums.

The gargoyle will be able to fit a bit more guns than the ds with a 400xl, but it's still not going to be as awesome as the timber wolf

It's got a ginormous engine- a 400XL, the biggest really viable engine in the game. And only 11 tons of FFA armor stock and 21.5 tons of pod space to draw off of to bring that armor weight up to MWO standards, meaning it'll have a thin weapons compliment as well. 11 tons of armor. On an 80-ton 'Mech. That's basically Jagermech armor strapped to a Victor.

The other good news is the stock 16 HS- if it didn't already have them, with armor/podspace like that it'd be hard-pressed to find room if it wasn't already there. It's the Charger of Clantech- maximum speed for an assault but it sacrifices tremendously to get there.

If a Gargoyle pilot loses an arm, they'll lose half their weapons...

Honestly, the Victor is hands over fist better. You can put a huge engine in it, and if you lose an arm, you still have weapons.

The Gargoyle will be another Clan mech (like the Summoner) that very few people will be able to make work well. I honestly don't think it's a very viable chassis. Hell, the Gargoyle has NEVER been popular in any aspect of the TT game, the book lore, or any of the computer games. The Timberwolf and the Warhawk both can do everything better than the Gargoyle.

Some of the currently available Assaults can go >80 and even >90 kph...

Well, yeah, more, that's true. But conceptually it's the same problem: Speed of a medium, guns of a medium. I think it may be fun, but I'm not worried about it being game breaking and, like you say, nothing like a TBR!

The potential value of the mech is that you can keep up with the heavies and the minimum speed of the entire group goes up. In contrast to the Summoner: you are not denying a Timberwolf a spot in the 3/3/3/3 queue. Nice for flanking or conquest. And running away from proper assaults. I think it might be fun in some situations.

The Victor, post un-nerfing of agility, will likely still be the more effective of the two. It has JJ, it has better AC's to complement the energy/missile weapons, and it already has decent hit boxes.

The Gargoyle will have less total weight for weapons, no JJ, and possible worse hit boxes, but it does get the Clan XL, so it's got some decent innate toughness if the CT isn't too huge.

Otherwise they're pretty similar on paper, big, well armored, fast, majority of hardpoints in the arms.

I find it amusing that someone is trying to take the gargoyle and make it sound OP.

That's one of the reasons I like the Masakari so much, I think it ends-up right around 80kph after unlocking speed tweek.....But it's anything but OP.
