Regardless of whether you offer a new IS pack, it would go a long way to help by dropping the $240 Clan Wave 1 requirement to $120.

This would bring it inline with the other packs spending requirements, as you said in your OP. As it stands, the feeling with those I have personally spoken with is that people who spent money on the first clan pack feel that they have been half-valued as a customer, compared to those who bough a top founder/phoenix or new clan pack, in terms of the amount of money they have spent vs King Crab thank-you.

For myself, I put down $60 on Founders Elite, and $120 on a Daishi pack, totaling $180, but won't currently get a King Crab. Had I bought an Overlord pack instead of the Daishi, PGI would have gotten $40 less from me, but would have given me a King Crab as a thank you. That seems backwards to me.

As a customer appreciation gift, the reward should require the same rough contribution and not have one at 2x (vs founders) or 3x (vs phoenix) price requirement. I think that would go a long way to help smooth ruffled feathers, and re-embrace the current spirit of giving in PGI.

Have you considered Guardians who bought the Saber package?

They spent more than Overlord, $90 vs $80.

That's what I'm talking about. For customer appreciation, going by a label and not by value spent leaves people who gave you more money with fewer rewards.

I did participate in the founders program but I would still buy a new IS package and if you make it this package I'll even pay the $240 top end price :D

I know, my Axman dream may never come to light, how about the other 3 PLUS an Axman statue for my cockpit?
I want the Bushwhacker.
I really do.
Just like I want the Cauldron Born.
Two of my favourite ever mechs.

Sadly neither will be available for a few years yet. :(
(Bushwhacker being produced in 3053, Cauldron Born hitting the IS in 3052)

I would purchase another IS pack, a 2 light, heavy, assault would be nice. This game really needs more lights, and I really want my flea....
Flea's MASC.
They're scared of MASC. :(
What we really need is the Urbie man!

Here's a thought: One pack, four hero mechs from our current pool of mechs. A locust, a shadowhawk, a wolverine and a thunderbolt. Quick and easy, would be a good deal at $80.

Really?
1 Light, 2 Medium and a Heavy Hero, with a total MC value of 14625, worth $58, is a good deal at $80?

Oh I see, yes of course. Before Dec 16th.

I for one, and I guess quite a few others would not have funds to pre order yet another pack this year. Great idea but I think personally that there should be around 6 months at least between high cost packs.

Yes I would buy it depending on the mechs. I already have phoenix, and both clan packs. What i really want at this point is the shadow cat. I know its clan. But hopfully with or without MASC it will be released soon.

I think the easiest way to get $80 out of me is to play to my sense of IS pride in the faction I have chosen. Give me colors that correspond with my faction, give me mechs that correspond too, and maybe 1 or 2 in cockpit items.

Example:

Free Worlds League Pack:

Assault: Awesome AWS-9M
Heavy: Orion ON1-M
Medium: Cicada CDA-3M
Light: Spider SPD-5V

One of each of those mechs with the colors of the faction (in this case purple) and each mech getting the same bonuses as a hero mech does. Maybe throwing in one of the hero mechs in at the top level (like a protector). Give this pack the hologram FWL item as well as the banner. Give me 3 purples and maybe a white.

Same for the other factions, red and black for the Dracs with dragons and jenners, blues and black/white for the Lyrans with their atlai and commandos, etc, etc.

Play to the Inner Sphere House loyalty... maybe even give the mechs a loyalty bonus (whatever that means) when played.

Yep - would be good if the package sale didn't start before mid December.

a new IS Package is an interesting idea Russ however if you said is true and would not be ready for the 16th then I would suggest moving it up for the new year. Also skimming through some posts I do have to agree that another package so soon is abit abrut to the pruchasing world. You would have people toss money at it now but the majority would not be able to and we all know winter for us north of the equater around the globe can get pricey for us in the winter.

If a spring IS package were to form you could give out the Anilator as a bonus for buhying the top teir or something.

So I think if we were to offer a package for IS players to get in order to qualify for the King Crab I think it would need to be a new 80$ package with new IS chassis.

I want to hear your thoughts now on this, because it takes significant resources to develop one of these packages and we would need to have some idea on what the support level would be, how many would be interested?

I have to I heartily agree that PGI should not water down the commitment of people who bought into top tier ealier packages.
Not because I don't want others to have stuff, but because if you say unique offer, it really should be one.

Sucks not to get the flyer for free entrance to the night club, but sometimes lady luck is on your side. Not to mention you really WANT people to pay attention what's going on in mwo... "Ooh, they have a flash sale of a unique thingy... nice I'll go buy and play"

I agree with the proposed idea of hero meching the giveaway, why not... but there's another way as well.

A thing that is missing from new players, is the option of buying into large number of mechs as a package with a reasonable discount to start your pokemech collection (Yes, I think mech MC prices are way high as they are now, but I understand the complexity of backing out of a set pricepoint)
You should have packages of a number of existing mechs fitting to that 80$ pricepoint. Say for example;

Kurita mech pack (Kurita plus general mechs)
Steiner mech pack (Steiner plus general mechs)
Rasalhague mech pack (Steiner and Kurita specific mechs plus general mechs)
etc.

Multiple chassis with atleast three different variants. As a new player I'd definately want this, not to mention it would have the flavor of your chosen faction.

Perhaps as an icing on the cake, give a faction specific color/camo/unique decal set
Little extra work, but nowhere near the amount to create a new set of mechs. (Perhaps you COULD bring in few faction specfic new variants with the pack as well, though I can hear pay2win unless you eventually release them with cbills as well)

Even if I had all the mechs, I might buy into it to get a flashy decal which I couldn't get anywhere. (Yes it's cosmetics, make it exclusive)

My 2 cents - Mobilization Domination Pack ("....seeing increased mobilization on the borders has made the old mothballed factories a thing of the past... Old factories show signs of life and have been re-opened... old, familiar mechs are being produced and some intel shows new variants may be coming off the lines as well.... So continues the IS Houses arms race... )

80$ Package
  • (2) Spider variants + Anansi (Hero as unique variant)
  • (2) Griffin variants + Sparky (Hero as unique variant)
  • (2) Battlemaster variants + Hellslinger (Hero as unique variant)

Hummm, I'm not really sure I'd be down with dropping min $80 on a new package, it'd really have to depend on the mechs as a lot of the people that I played with have moved on to other games.

That said, as I mentioned previously, I was entirely interested in reopening the sale of the Phoenix mechs for general sale. What I was interested in was having the option to upgrade my Phoenix package from Storm to Overlord, much like how those that purchased A La Carte Invasion packages are allowed to upgrade their purchased to be able to qualify for the Mad Dog/Vulture.

That said if by some miracle the Ghosts of MechWarrior Past, Present & Future visited Scrooge McHarmony-Gold in their sleep tonight and Phoenix Pack II with a Marauder where to be the next package I'd probably go for it.

I agree with not bringing them back.

That said, you don't need to make the new IS pack at all. Peeps want the king crab, why not just sell the king crab with the 30% bonus for MC when we all get them? If you still want it to feel special, just sell it for like a week or until the cbill version is out then discontinue it.

I'd be all for it!

Some mechs that might be nice inclusions, sorted by weight class:

Light

Javelin (Light missile boat? Could be decent)
Wolfhound (looks sweet, lots of energy hardpoints, but not a done of variant diversity)
Mongoose (25 tonner with great speed, lots of lasers, and one variant has some missiles. Might be like a gimped jenner though, so I dunno)
Hussar (SUPER fast light with ECM, and some nice long range sniping due to having its big laser mounted over its head. It'd have a very unique profile and would make a pretty cool sniper, IMO)

Medium

Assassin (fast skirmishing medium with jump jets)
Hermes II (another fast medium, but with some ballistic and energy hardpoints)
Hoplite (55 tonner that doesn't have a ton of hardpoints, but does have an ECM variant.)
Dervish (Jumpjets, missiles and lasers. Might overlap with some griffins and trebuchets, but I could see it being solid.

Heavy

Champion (one of the clanbuster mechs. Good engine size and a mix of hardpoints. Would need some kind of special quirk to stand out, IMO)
Crusader (Has energy, ballistic, AND missile hardpoints in the arms - should make for some diverse builds. Also does have some leg-mounted missiles, so that might be an issue...could be relocated to the torso for MWO though)
Grasshopper (Plenty of energy hardpoints with a couple missiles and jumpjets. It could make a solid alternative to the CTF-3D for IS heavy pilots that want jumpjets)
Black Knight (OH GOD SO MANY LASERS. Not a lot of variant diversity though)

Assault

Devastator (Energy/ballistic mech. Think an IS direwhale type of thing)
Hatamoto-Chi (An 80 tonner with a unique look, arm mounted energy hardpoints, and a nice mix of missile, energy, and ballistic hardpoints across several variants)
Zeus (Classic Lyran assault. Hardpoints might make it feel a little too close to the victor though.)
Cyclops (Imagine an atlas but slightly lighter and faster. It's also a specialized command mech, so maybe some command console related quirks? Could be interesting.)

Yes! I don't exactly regret buying my Nova... but I really like piloting only my IS mechs.

If you guys create a new IS pack (CLANBUSTERS??????) Then I'm TOTALLY in.

Make it so! (Please?) If you do before the Appreciation Packages expire I'm going to buy them regardless. (I want DAT ATLAS)

I would be all in for a new IS pack, and I have already qualified for the KC.

I would like to request the Zeus be included in this potential package though...

While I wouldn't mind another IS package, I would like to see something similar to the founders set up for actual package purchase.  In other words, instead of a weight based  program for the mechs, you purchased a package and get to choose a mech.  Make the packages worth it with MC/premium time/pain job, but provide more things at different tiers but give the option for which mech you want.
That was part of the reason I did not buy the pheonix package.  I wanted the shadow hawk and didn't care much for others, so I would have paid the $20 for the low tier package and chosen that one.  Since the low tier only came with the locust, I didn't want to spend $40 for the mech I wanted because I had to purchase I mech I didn't want to get it.

The problem with doing a pack that uses existing mechs is it "screws over" those who have bought those existing mechs with CBills or MC already.

Hence, it needs to be new mechs, and needs to be "available to order" before the December deadline while also having the mechs ready to inject into the game starting in January or so.

Which, going by even the 1 mech per month rate of the old days, should be doable.

Russ,

I'll start off with the fact I'm loving seeing you interact with the community. Though I've only been playing for a year as of this month, that year has seen a lot of changes some not so good and more recently some that were just brilliant.

On a re-issue of Founders and Project Phoenix I can honestly say I'm against it. Founders, especially the ones still here earned that place in MWO, just like the Phoenix adopters, and when Clan wave 1 is said and done them as well.

As far as the rewards go, I think they were evenly spread across the community pretty fairly. Free Assaults and long lost MWO variants with a snazzy look and bonus isn't too shabby and as a community it seemed pretty selfish and unappreciative to sit there and play the not fair card and complain when we didnt meet the rewards criteria, instead of being thankful for the generous amount of free stuff that got thrown out there.

So with that said I would be on board with a new IS pack especially with a lot of the fresh ideas that are being tossed around for pack ideas. Though I'm on the fence about making it apply to the King Crab Top tier reward. To me it feels like setting a bad precedence to community responses to future rewards and bonus systems in where the group that didn't qualify sets the forums ablaze to get what they want, because they don't have what the other kid has.

Caln busters, baby!

Ahem, I mean, yeah, I think I might be okay with that. ;)

To achieve this before the custom King Crab is released, you'd have to announce the package between then and now, most likely after Wave 1 is entirely available for C-Bills. That would really put a lot of pressure on your team to build the next pacakge really quickly. How about going about the new IS pack Wave 2 is at least partially finished, after the custom King Crab is out, and after you've done CW, and then giving out the custom King Crab to top-tier purchasers then? Probably wouldn't satisfy everyone, as it'd come a bit later, but they would still get the custom King Crab, and hopefully it wouldn't affect the development Wave 2 or Community Warfare. Less than ideal, but this situation probably wouldn't exist if you guys either released an IS pack alongside Wave 2, or if you alternated between IS and Clan. Not criticizing you guys, just giving you a suggestion.

P.S.

Doesn't have to be Clan Busters to make people happy. I'd cough up $80 for a Zeus too :) Even without a Zeus, I'd go up to the Heavy tier for a Hammerhands, and you just know that a lot of players really want a Warhammer in their hanger.
