It's amazing the amount of people getting out their pitchforks and torches over a free mech

No it's not. This is the internet. If there's one thing it's got in spades it's frothing incoherent rage.

A new IS package like the Phoenix Package? I'd bite that... :)

So...what Mechs would you use? Here are my thoughts:

Option 1:
Wolfhound
Hellspawn
Black Knight
Longbow

Option 2:
Panther
Bushwhacker
Rifleman
Mauler

*Note: Some of these, like the Bushwhacker, might not fit in the timeline. Feel free to suggest alternatives if you don't think PGI would go for them.

**Note: Though it might not be feasible because of the variants available, my greatest desire is to see the Devastator released in-game. That would truly be amazing!

Sorry Nightmare1 but at least two of those may never see MWO battlefields due to legal issues.

I think people forget that by pre-ordering we lost the utility of the money. So a straight $$ comparison does not take that into account. I didn't just pay $240 for a Masakari, I paid $240 and lost the utility of that money for several months. If you know finance this is a big thing.

Second, the King Crab is a reward for loyalty AND for lending PGI money to develop what we would eventually get. Without our prospective contributions these packages might not have been developed.

In this respect the cumulative pre-order $$$ argument has some validity, but bunching in C-Bill and package purchases after they have been released does not.

Actually the Bushwhacker was in development before the Clan Invasion. It had problems with the engine that made it unusable, but after the Davions got a hold of a Mad Dog they figured out how to make it work. So maybe now that the Mad Dog is in game we could get the Bushwhacker *crossing my fingers*

So let's say someone bought the $80 Overlord pack, then decided that was all they were going to buy in this game and spent nothing else. Congrats you get free King Crab.

Now another person buys 2 clan mechs A La Carte because they can't jusity the full $240 but still want 2 specific mechs. One mech was $55 then next was $50, totaling $105. They do not qualify for King Crab.

Given that scenario, I pose this question to all the "You had your chance that you didn't realize you had anyway" people. Why does the first person deserve their King Crab while the second does not?

How about a "faction" oriented package? We're still missing some pretty iconic faction specific mechs. This could coincide with the faction oriented nature of community warfare.

I would do one like this:

Light - Wolfhound - Davion/Steiner. The first mech to encounter a Mad Cat. People have been asking for it.
Medium - Assassin - Marik. A unique mech that has been requested.
Heavy - Grasshopper - Liao/FRR. A big mech from the 4th succession war.
Assault - Hatamoto-Chi - Kurita. Very stylized, this could be the big one for the "faction" package.

Alternately, swap the light with the Panther for Kurita and choose some others like the Enforcer for Davion. Having the restriction on unseen mechs really hurts the selection but I'd absolutely buy this package as an IS loyalist.

How is buying a package that in no way included a King Crab but then long after that package stopped selling got it added to it being a smart shopper? How is somebody buying a $80 overlord pack being more supportive than somebody that has bought $60 founders, $60 phoenix, $120 clan, and a bunch of MC?

Want to keep exclusive packs exclusive, fine. But those packs did not include a King Crab so you can't say you deserve it more than people who have spent tons of money on the game but just happened to not buy the top tier pre-order.

They are adding a new package yeah?

Just an idea, why not use the amount of actual currency spent on game (real physical dollars or whatever) as a means to qualify people for some of these "special" mechs?

I bought the $40 Founder package back in closed beta, I bought the Phoenix and Sabre packs for whatever that was, one of the lower tier clan packs, bought MC here and there... I'm sure the money I've spent has well surpassed these "$80 minimum pre-orders to get cool future stuff" packages. I think I should be rewarded in same tastes.

I like this idea. Maybe not for the King Crab, as that's kind of already been "spoken" for, but with some other future bonus 'Mech. UrbanMech would be good for a gag, but that's beside the point. Either way, cool idea.

Bingo. You just laid it all out in one post. You assumed a lot with that post didn't you?
I qualify for ALL the rewards.I also have spent more than $650. ( I like this game and want it to succeed.)
It's NOT about ME.
If you can't look at the situation and put yourself in other's shoes and engage your compassion-you'll NEVER be able to discuss anything like this properly.
I DO understand the naysayer's point (the ones who argue on the technical principle) but in a situation like this, we are not talking about a law or somesuch we enter into an area that touches on understanding of other people and of having to extend a hand in friendship to fellow MWO players.
But I also understand the opposite end of the discussion, something which I notice many here deliberately discount and don't care about. Sometimes a principle relating to a law or a rule does need to be looked at and sometimes overturned when it could hurt others, in any way.
In my country, people have upheld principles (of law) which have allowed criminals (dangerous ones) free to re offend. And we here, are talking about mere PIXELS and the sense of "feeling special" LOL?

But thanks for that post, you painted the picture I wanted.

Actually I can. I'm just not being a whiny crybaby about not getting special Mechs. I missed the special Thunderbolt and Centurion they released as challenge rewards, and I actually wanted them. Do I complain to PGI to let me have them just because? No, not at all.

I've missed countless rewards across countless games, most of which I really wanted because I thought they were awesome. So don't try to play the high and mighty "you just don't get it" card with me. I understand it better than most in fact. As it so happens, I still don't feel bad for people who cry about missing rewards they never qualified for to the point of ruining it for those who did.

Pixels run this game buddy, pixels ARE this game. And PGI makes their living off these pixels. So just because your laws suck, doesn't mean that an exclusive and unique reward needs to be given to everybody. And yes my friend, you're just another freeloading scrub who wants to take what you didn't earn from those who did. You're just like the majority of any MMO population, you and your "argument" are nothing special in the slightest.

BY ODIN'S BEARD, YES.

I would pay so much for that Mech, you don't even know. On one condition though: That SOB better have a functioning sword option. Smacking other Mechs with a 10 ton Katana would be utterly priceless.

Odon's Beard? Shouldn't that be the FRR? Also, only one Hatamoto Chi carries a sword and it's a custom one that won't be around until 3058 at the earliest.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Everybody can have custom variants. Everybody. Especially if that variant has a sword.

All this for a King Crab with a custom paint job and 30% C-bill....which is only injected on 16th Dec...the same day standard variants for MC comes out...(C-bills 20 Jan)....

And damn people post fast...

Reason I bought Overlord was because of the value and Battlemaster. Since the 50% discount on heroes, bought some as well. Didn't buy clans because the pricing is a bit high for my taste.

It would have to be really convincing $80 package for me unfortunately.

Besides what CAN you do before the deadline?

- Release new IS mechs (at the same time as the clan mechs)?
- Bundle current prime variant mechs with 30% C-bill bonus and custom paints?

I did the math. To get the Wave 2 Koshi "Mist Lynx" pack. 30 dollars.

With all the early purchase bonuses, prices for the paint, cockpit items, buying standard variants for MC and buying an approx hero 25 ton mech price (best for estimate) with the premium time in MC and such.

If this content was all out on the premium content store to buy with MC, it will equal to 120-ish USD. However MC packages have better value the higher they go. So this would be around 150 USD just for the 30 ton pack.

I remember someone said that getting the top tier wave 1 pack excluding war horns and other goodies like that will get you around 500 USD saved (so those people who bought golden khan mechs got there literal moneys worth)

But yea. It is a bit more pricey then the IS stuff. but the IS mechs are also cheaper.

You mean like he did in the Town Hall?

I haven't got that far yet, but apparently we'll see a new IS pack announced / up for sale before the Dec 16 cut off for the King Crab.
The Light and Medium won't get a poll as that's already decided and is 'a slam dunk', while the Heavy will be a Black Knight or Grasshopper (as per poll - BK won by 39 votes) and the assault a Charger, Zeus or Cyclops (as per poll - zeus won by 22 votes)

Urbanmech we should be seeing next year, but not likely in this pack.

While new mechs are nice, I don't think this is a good idea.

There are plenty more things PGI can do with their free time, like new maps, new game modes, community warfare(!), game engine tweaks, texture pack improving, collisions, destroyable game environment...

In all honesty, this feels like a money grab to many players. If players want the hero King Crab, buy a clan pack. Or wait till Jan 20.

From what was said CW development will be unnafected.
I think other things will be too.

From what was said, the pack will be available to pre-order before the cutoff, but won't be available till a while after (jan/feb on wards next year, could be up to 6 months), but done this way to allow people to have the IS option of a King Crab reward.

I mean, I'll already be getting mine, but I might buy an IS pack anyway if it tickles my fancy.

I disagree.
Doing it as they apparently have will generate a lot of goodwill from the players that will benefit. All the other people that feel entitled and special still are, though not for the reasons they think-judging by their posts on this subject.
The "tough, you missed out and can't have it hahahaha whilst I look at my good fortune" attitude is not appropriate when something so unimportant can (and seemingly is) be solved so very easily, it's just pixels.
Deliberately denying other people something that can be granted without causing harm to any, based on a "principle" which many would disregard in a heartbeat if the situation were the other way around is frankly, shameful.

I say bravo Russ and crew, much kudos earned by tackling this.
For those of you standing on the rotten pedestal, take a long slow look at your motivations for the things that have been said.

People who bought less than a top tier package and an MC package get two mechs...

People who bought a top tier package but no MC get two mechs....

People who bought both a top tier and MC get three mechs....

Sounds fair to me.
